Transporter Specialist – La Jornada (The Journey) Program (Transitional Foster Care)
The Transporter Specialist will coordinate transportation and physically escort children who have fled their country of origin and arrived in the U.S. without a parent or legal guardian as they continue their journey to be united with sponsors.

Responsibilities

Must be able to travel out of state up to 40%-50% for reunification efforts.

Perform all work in a manner consistent with NYAP’s Mission, Values and Philosophies.

Coordinate transportation: organize and navigate travel destinations, physically escort youth, supervise youth while in transit to scheduled and emergency appointments; coordinate medical transport with Charge Nurse, clinical transport with clinical staff, and reunification transport with the team.

Track and assign all doctor appointments via supervisors; attend weekly supervisor meetings.

Maintain a daily roster of times, dates, destinations, transporters and length of transport.

Provide documentation of all missed appointments or unusual events to the Management Team.

Track and schedule all group outings weekly via transportation outing schedule.

Maintain phone numbers of staff on transport.

Ensure daily cleanliness and upkeep of all vehicles assigned to the campus – include inspecting for cleanliness, damage, proper equipment and safe operation.

Ensure vehicles are properly fueled.

Maintain security over the vehicles and keys.

Report vehicle needs and damage to maintenance and track all vehicle issues in regard to repair.

Maintain notebooks – inspect logs for completion and accuracy.

Provide safety training to all new hires every three weeks.

Collect and track all safety checklist sheets and provide weekly report.

Transport youth requires prolonged periods of walking and standing and physical agility (may run and climb flights of stairs).

Participate in physical interventions with youth when necessary.

Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally more than 100 pounds.

Complete Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and CPR training.

Schedule will vary depending on transport need; flexibility is needed.

Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

Experience working with at‑risk youth.

Bilingual English/Spanish fluency required.

Excellent time management and organization skills.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Pass agility and strength evaluation.

Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, automotive insurance, and good driving record.

Proficiency with desktop and laptop computers, smartphones, tablets, printers, fax machines, and photocopiers; proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.

Minimum automobile insurance coverage of $100,000/300,000 bodily liability.

21 years of age, valid state driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, and a good driving record.

Physical Demands

Use of repetitive motion, prolonged sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental demands.

Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.

Ability to travel frequently and drive vehicle while sitting for extended periods, with frequency varying based on program demands.
