Senior Energy Strategy Manager, AMER Energy West
Amazon Web Services (AWS), Seattle, WA, United States
About the Role
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.
You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
Amazon is seeking a self‑starter and results‑oriented individual to join the AWS Energy team that sits within the AWS Infrastructure Services org in pioneering the future for data center utility power by developing and executing the strategy by which AWS delivers energy projects and partners with electric utilities and energy companies across the Pacific Northwest region of the US. This individual will define the end‑to‑end, including generation, transmission, distribution, and backup power strategy, for scaling and operating AWS’ diverse, low‑cost energy supply. In this role, you will manage multiple, large‑scale (100+ MW) and technically complex power infrastructure projects across multiple geographies by facilitating close collaboration between both internal and external stakeholders. The role requires resilience in exploring and discovering new supply opportunities, converting them into tactically sound and executable energy projects, and reducing energy capital and operating expenses.
Key Job Responsibilities
Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive utilities strategy for AWS data centers for AMER regions.
Manage multiple utilities, EPC and Owner’s Engineers to deliver MV and HV power infrastructure, including negotiations and contracting.
Develop and execute energy strategies that leverage capital projects (utility grid connections, high voltage substations, energy storage, etc.) to reduce long‑term energy costs. Manage capital budgets for electrical infrastructure and energy projects.
Work collaboratively with Amazon CFE/RE team to support the development of strategic energy sourcing opportunities.
Execute electricity supply contracts that create new clean energy capacity on the grid (through utilities), reduce cost, minimize risk and leverage opportunities that benefit Amazon.
Manage a portfolio of complex energy projects.
Collaborate with internal teams and regulated utilities on the implementation and management of energy projects to meet the business timelines.
Identify and develop innovative cost‑saving projects (capital and operational) and initiatives related to energy infrastructure and supply.
Responsible for completing due diligence on in‑market opportunities and developing those opportunities into cost savings for the business.
Work with utility regulators to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS strategies and objectives.
Day in the Life
Think like a group CEO of Generation, transmission, distribution and backup power companies. We are the ones who are developing the Vision, Strategy and Execution plan of what the future looks like and helping every one in the Energy Value chain to do things differently.
