Role Overview
As a member of the Development Department, the Marketing Specialist will help develop and implement public relations and marketing strategies that promote the agency’s programs, services, and community relations goals. The Marketing Specialist will manage internal and external communications, marketing materials, the organization’s website, and social media platforms to support community awareness and engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement marketing strategies and public relations materials to enhance the agency image, promote community awareness, and support organizational goals.
Develop and distribute marketing materials for Valley Cities programs, services, events, awareness campaigns, and organizational initiatives, including brochures, flyers, posters, tool kits, and other promotional materials as requested.
Serve as lead media contact, managing the agency’s graphic and print work‑order requests, and overseeing vendors and contracts regarding timelines, cost, and proofs related to marketing and communications projects.
Ensure consistent Valley Cities branding and strengthen relationships with staff, volunteers, partners, and communities.
Serve as an ambassador for the organization by attending and participating in service clubs, Chamber of Commerce activities, community forums, open houses, trade shows, and speaking engagements.
Manage and maintain the organization’s website, including development, updates, content management, and ensuring information is current, accurate, and aligned with organizational branding and communication goals.
Manage the organization’s social media strategy and social media accounts to increase community engagement and awareness of services and programs.
Handle the marketing and promotion of organizational initiatives and campaigns, including special events, community awareness efforts, external newsletters, annual reports, and direct mail communications.
Write and develop newsletters, press releases, marketing content, and client informational materials.
Support organizational communications by developing content for the editorial calendar, including press releases, social media posts, and other shareable content.
Identify and suggest potential article ideas; research, interview, and write articles for the company website and social media accounts by tracking trends and community stories relevant to behavioral health care services and substance use treatment.
Coordinate the preparation and distribution of external publications and organizational communications materials.
Attend Valley Cities meetings and travel to and from work‑related meetings and events as required.
What We’re Looking For
Education
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, journalism, communications, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
Experience
Three years of experience in marketing, advertising, public relations, or communications.
Non‑profit and/or healthcare experience preferred.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to develop creative, clear, persuasive copy and compelling digital storytelling content.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and website/content management platforms. Experience with Adobe, WordPress, Constant Contact, MailChimp, Givebutter, Google Ad Words, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube are preferred.
Experience managing and updating organizational websites, including content development, editing, and maintenance.
Strong project management, organizational, and attention‑to‑detail skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and interact professionally with individuals at all levels of the organization and within the community.
Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality regarding organizational, business, and personnel matters.
Demonstrates professionalism when interacting with staff, clients, visitors, contractors, vendors, and community partners.
Knowledge of branding, digital marketing, social media strategy, and community outreach practices.
