The Energy Reliability Engineering team is seeking highly motivated Engineering Technicians to help develop Tesla's future in Energy Products and associated systems while continuously improving our existing products. Our Engineering Technicians work side by side with our Test Engineers to validate our world class products, iterate product and test designs, and push the boundaries of our products functionality and reliability. This work requires you to be extremely detail oriented, hold your work to the highest quality standards, and have the engineering drive to perpetually innovate. Testing requires collaboration with many engineering teams—reliability, design, integration etc.—a team player mentality and exceptional communication is essential. Tesla's energy systems are constantly being refined and improved to maintain the highest possible standards for quality and performance. The Reliability Engineering team must function efficiently and meticulously to accelerate innovation and support the rapid design changes required to develop the best possible products. This critical role combines engineering fundamentals with a scientific approach to collecting data which is used to validate designs and ensure our products function as designed in real world conditions.
What You'll Do
Adhere to Tesla safety protocols, including the use of required PPE, compliance with procedures/protocols, identification of hazards and implementation of corrective actions.
Setup tests as prescribed by Test Engineers—including AC/DC high and low voltage connections, assembly of test fixtures, coolant system configuration, and CAN data connections.
Conduct engineering tests—including script execution, data acquisition, and data post-processing.
Maintain cutting‑edge equipment including lab scale Environmental Test Chambers, data acquisition systems and precision instrumentation.
Facilitate efficient testing workflow: maintain/improve existing test fixtures, design/build new equipment to optimize test results and reduce setup time.
Troubleshoot mechanical & electrical issues with Engineering Team as they arise.
Communicate test results and technical questions and findings in a concise and descriptive manner.
Provide careful, detail‑oriented documentation during tests, and post‑test inspections.
Willing to travel to support lab expansion at our facilities in Fremont, Austin, Berlin, and future locations.
What You'll Bring
Preferred: Associate's Degree, with extensive practical experience as an automotive or electronics engineering technician, or equivalent experience.
Preferred: Valid High Voltage training certificate from an OEM or demonstrated working knowledge of battery powered systems.
Demonstrate mechanical aptitude—ability to independently disassemble and reassemble electromechanical systems, fabrication skills, machine shop experience, expert with hand and power tools.
Experience with standard electronics lab tools including AC/DC meters, data acquisition, AC/DC power supplies, etc.
Experience making wiring harnesses by way of soldering, crimping, following wiring diagrams, etc.
Strong understanding of physics and engineering fundamentals.
Methodical and diligent, demonstrated ability to work with a strong sense of quality and craft.
Creative approach to problem solving, with willingness to learn and try new things.
Is self-directing, able to work across the entire organization to collect parts and information to execute job responsibilities.
Excellent documentation and written communication; proficient using Microsoft Office software such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
