Position Summary
The instructor is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. The instructor is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend on any Bishop State Community College campus as assigned. At a minimum, the related activities include instruction, instructional counseling, academic advising, serving on various committees, participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations. An instructor performs all other duties as directed by the Division Chair, Dean of Instruction, or the President or designee.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Knowledge of voice pedagogy and techniques, literature and voice methods, and commercial music production;
Direct the Bishop State Community Choir and administrative tasks related to the choir.
Demonstrate performing excellence in voice recitals, concerts, and other performances;
Experience in educational theory and methodology, instructional design, student evaluation and outcome assessment;
Ability to collaborate with local commercial music entities and four-year institutions to develop pathways for student and program growth.
Coordinate, plan, organize, and instruct courses in the day, evening, or on weekends on any Bishop State Community College campus as assigned;
Remain active at a high level of expertise in the subjects taught and stimulate enthusiasm for those subjects;
Recommend instructional materials including classroom and laboratory equipment to Division Chairs, Librarian, etc;
Teach all classes according to an approved course syllabus and learning management system guidelines;
Maintain substantial student engagement regarding course material and routine academic progress;
Maintain accurate and complete scholastic records, including attendance records;
Submit Failure to Report, Early Warning, Notification of Unofficial Withdrawal, and other documentation when appropriate;
Conduct class evaluations and complete other college evaluations in accordance with college policy;
Ensure that assigned classes are held as scheduled and align with College approved Academic Calendar;
Make suggestions to the Division Chair or department administration concerning the improvement of the curriculum in keeping with the objectives of the college;
Participate in program and curriculum review and development and student learning outcomes initiatives;
Study and utilize students' leaning styles in each class in order to facilitate the best teaching and learning situations;
Incorporate instructional technologies in instructional delivery;
Assist with pre-registration and registration;
Demonstrate a genuine concern for each student through student-instructor conferences and the full use of the faculty advisement system;
Assist in recruitment and retention of students;
Serve as an academic advisor to assigned students;
Post and maintain office hours for student consultations;
Strive for the qualities delineated in the criteria for faculty evaluation used by the college;
Refer students to student support departments as needed;
Attend all faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as called by administrative leadership;
Become thoroughly familiar with all college policies and procedures and comply with all college policies and procedures;
Serve on and provide information to college communities as needed;
Be actively involved in the activities of the college;
Perform other duties as assigned by the Departmental Chair, Division Administration/Vice President of Instructional Services and/or President.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree from an accredited institution required.
Graduate course work in Music or related field from an institution accredited by a federally recognized agency.
Teaching experience in music-voice, choral directing and related teaching methods.
Experience coordinating college choirs and ensembles.
Experience in vocal performance and coaching.
Preferred Requirements:
Knowledge of a wide range of musical genres.
Professional training in piano, musical composition, and commercial music recording.

Sick Leave
All regular full-time instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is equivalent to 7 hours per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. Tuition Assistance
This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education.
