Job Description
Job Summary: The Writer-Reporter is supervised by the Senior Editor and is responsible for pitching, reporting and writing stories across platforms. The ideal candidate is an excellent writer and researcher with sound news judgment, a keen interviewer, and an enthusiastic team player who thrives in a fast‑paced environment. Daily deadlines, covering breaking news and events, and working nights or weekends when necessary are part of the role. The Writer-Reporter collaborates with a digital team, leveraging SEO, Discover, and analytics to enhance storytelling.

Essential Job Functions

60% – Write stories on deadline across platforms.

20% – Report stories and conduct interviews.

10% – Pitch content.

10% – Organize special content projects and other assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements
Education:

BA/BS degree, preferably in journalism or communications, related field or equivalent training and/or experience.

Experience:

Minimum 2 years of experience writing for a high‑volume, digital news operation.

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a proven ability to work independently.

Strong writing and research skills with impeccable journalistic standards.

Ability to respond quickly to breaking news.

Strong reporting and interviewing skills and the ability to cultivate new sources.

Passion for the PEOPLE brand.

% Travel Required (Approximate):

0–10%, or as may be assigned.

Pay Range and Benefits
Salary: California: $70,304.00 – $70,304.00. The pay range above represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position and may change in the future. Actual pay may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including work location, experience, and performance. The range listed is one component of People Inc's total compensation package for employees. Other compensation may include annual bonuses and short‑ and long‑term incentives.
