Overview
The Digital Account Director is responsible for directing and managing the digital direct response program for non‑profit organizations, maintaining strong client relationships, providing leadership within the Digital Department, and developing new service areas to give the company a competitive edge.
The role includes developing a multi‑year strategic vision for clients’ digital programs across email, web, text, ads and other channels, building annual digital budget projections, communicating results, and ensuring campaigns meet goals. The Director also supervises team members, builds capabilities in the Digital Department, and supports new business development.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain strong relationships with clients and report up to Vice President, Executive Vice President, Principal or Partner.
- Work closely with clients to develop the overall vision and KPIs for the digital program, strategizing on every available digital channel.
- Build or oversee creation of the annual client budget and map segmentation and testing strategies to achieve organizational goals.
- Lead the team in developing individual campaign strategy and tests, incorporating big‑picture analysis and innovative creative ideas.
- Proactively discuss progress toward annual goals in client meetings across all digital channels.
- Communicate digital strategy, pivoting approaches, and potentially selling clients on new channels, campaigns or tools.
- Manage the team executing email, text and web campaigns, ensuring procedures, schedules and error‑free delivery.
- Provide creative oversight for copy and art, ensuring compelling, strategic creative.
- Monitor results, communicate with team and client on campaign outcomes in real time, and lead critical strategy decisions.
- Oversee the writing of campaign reports and written analysis and recommendations.
- Lead larger‑scale analysis, collaborating with outside analytics partners for strategic insights.
- Oversee team roles, making suggestions for changes based on dynamics and results.
- Develop working relationships with Analytics Director, Art Director and Advertising Director to maintain a competitive edge.
- Supervise multiple Digital Account staff, adhering to supervisory procedures.
- Handle Digital Department billing monthly and lead monthly Digital Department meetings.
- Work with company leadership to build expertise and offerings within the Digital Department through training, staffing strategy, new services or partnerships.
- Report and guide discussion on digital trends, issues, new ideas and testing reports in meetings.
- Oversee Digital Department procedures, refining and adding new processes and training staff.
- Attend training sessions, industry conferences or seminars to stay abreast of digital and direct response fundraising trends.
- Participate in new business proposals and vet potential clients.
- Cultivate presence in the industry through volunteering, speaking or publishing for internal and external outlets.
- Develop and spearhead special projects or initiatives to further company offerings, processes or culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- 8–10 years of experience in fundraising and/or direct marketing.
- Detailed knowledge of direct response fundraising, digital fundraising, advocacy campaigns, analysis and budgeting.
- Expertise with multiple digital platforms and ability to develop compelling copy.
- Strong experience with digital advertising.
- Strong attention to detail and highly organized.
- Flexible and able to multi‑task across projects and deadlines.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Experience in a supervisory capacity with proven ability to manage staff.
- Self‑starter with an entrepreneurial spirit.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Work in a general office setting, including performing tasks on a computer, speaking, reading, and operating general office equipment.
Occasional lifting up to 10 pounds, ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods, and walk/move about the work setting to accomplish tasks.
Subject to climate‑controlled office environments; role is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
In capacities where the position is performed remotely, maintain a suitable and safe remote home working space.
Occasional travel may be required.
