POSITION SUMMARY:Reporting to the Director of Advancement Programs & Operations, the Director of Alumni Relations plays a critical role in fostering lifelong connections between Gilman graduates and the school. This engagement serves as the first step in a cycle of giving that helps to support the school's daily operations and ensures its long-term viability.

The Director of Alumni Relations is responsible for driving engagement with Gilman's 6,000+ living alumni. To achieve this, she/he shall plan, promote, and execute 12-15 events, including a robust Alumni Weekend lineup, per school year; recruit more than 100 volunteers for both ongoing roles and one-off engagements; serve as the primary staff liaison for the School's Alumni Association Board of Governors; and write copy for important alumni communications in a variety of mediums.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Event management - plan, promote, and execute events ranging in size from 10 to 650 people. This includes establishing registration processes, overseeing the distribution of digital and print invitations, managing budgets, supervising caterers, and working closely with colleagues in other departments. Events include but are not limited to:

Alumni Weekend - reunion offerings for 10+ milestone classes
Blue-Gray Weekend - community celebration surrounding annual rivalry football game
Regional Alumni Receptions - receptions to connect and engage alumni living outside of Baltimore
Career Networking events - opportunities for alumni to engage with fellow alumni and/or students in a professional networking setting

Volunteer recruitment - with the support of the Advancement Department and other School leaders, identify and recruit alumni volunteers for several ongoing roles and one-off engagements. Ongoing roles include but are not limited to Alumni Association Board of Governors, Alumni Weekend Class Chairs & Reunion Committees, Class Secretaries, Cotton Lecture speakers, Networking Event panelists, etc. One-off engagements may include assembly, club, and/or sports team speakers.
Volunteer management - serve as primary staff liaison for the Alumni Association Board of Governors. This group meets five times per year, and serves as a key communication vehicle for the School to and from its broader alumni base. Specific duties include leading efforts to recruit and onboard new members, setting group priorities and tracking group activities, administering meeting schedules, disseminating pertinent meeting information, leading the award and new membership nomination processes, and supporting the activities of alumni affinity groups.
Career services - through personal conversations and broader programmatic initiatives - connect Gilman students and alumni with fellow alumni who are industry leaders to foster career growth, development, and movement.
Marketing & communications - work with the Director of Advancement Communications to write copy and select imagery for a variety of communications usages. These include email newsletters, website and social media posts, and pieces for print magazines.
Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

5-7 years of program management experience
Bachelor's degree required
Superior interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Demonstrated track record of developing and executing successful and impactful events and programs
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
Strong Microsoft Office/Google Suite and experience with database systems
Ability to provide high-level customer service
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Alumni relations/constituent relations experience in a university, other nonprofit, or comparable field
A background in marketing or communications and/or fundraising experience

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

We are committed to transparency and supporting our employees' well-being. For this role, we offer a competitive pay range of $75,000 to $85,000, based on experience and qualifications.
