Overview
The Operations/Quality Technician Coordinator (OQTC) is responsible for the operation and maintenance of a high pressure nitrogen system at the Vandenberg SFB facility. In this role, you are the essential connector between the physical plant and the control logic. The OQTC will assist the Plant Manager in the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the facility, supporting the fulfillment of customer needs and launch schedules. The OQTC assists with developing new testing tools, methods and systems to ensure that products and services are of the highest quality. Follows all regulatory agency requirements including, but not limited to OSHA, EPA, APCD and Airgas quality policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
Operating Gaseous Nitrogen (GN2) Plant and maintaining continuous pipeline pressure per contract agreement
Applies thoughtful problem-solving to perform daily rounds, preventative maintenance and responding to critical issues at the plant/facility
Monitors and maintains peak plant efficiency using a Distributed Control System to nurture system stability and safety alarms
Perform hands-on resolving of technical challenges and mechanical repairs of plant equipment to restore operational functionality and minimize facility downtime
Implements and maintains OSHA, EPA, APCD, SOP's and other government compliance programs
Maintains Customer Compliance Log; investigates quality complaints, recommends and implements corrective measures
Assists Plant Manager and Engineering in R&D projects as a contributing team player
Serves as a technical partner to all departments as necessary
Updates and maintains all product specifications, control specifications, processes and practices; works with all operators and technicians to ensure any updates are understood, followed, and supported
Required Qualifications
High School diploma with 6+ years of relevant experience, or a Degree/Diploma in Engineering or a related technical field.
Extensive background in pumps, instrumentation maintenance, and mechanical cryogenic systems; proven ability to interpret technical documentation and troubleshoot complex production issues.
Familiarity with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and a working knowledge of safety and environmental compliance (OSHA, EPA).
Ability to adapt to a highly variable, mission-driven work schedule. Must be willing to shift between day and night operations on short notice to support critical testing windows and launch requirements.
Willingness to travel occasionally as required (typically 3-6 times per year).
Preferred Qualifications
Prior air separation or refining experience is a plus.
