Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly skilled

Graphic Designer / Motion Graphics Specialist

to create compelling visual communications that support scientific, medical, and public health messaging. This role combines strong design fundamentals with advanced motion graphics expertise to produce engaging, accessible, and impactful content across print and digital platforms.

Design and produce a wide range of visual communication materials, including:

Scientific posters, presentations, and data visualizations

Publications (fact sheets, brochures, reports, books, infographics)

Digital assets (logos, icons, web graphics, social media visuals)

Motion graphics and animations

Develop creative visual solutions that effectively communicate complex scientific and public health information to diverse audiences.

Provide consultation and strategic guidance to internal clients throughout the creative process, ensuring high-quality deliverables and excellent customer service.

Collaborate with subject matter experts, health communication specialists, and digital teams to produce cohesive and accurate materials.

Ensure all deliverables comply with:

Organizational branding and visual identity standards

Section 508 accessibility requirements

Health equity and inclusive communication principles

Manage and track projects using a graphic design project management system to ensure timely completion.

Communicate project status to Team Lead and elevate challenges as needed.

Participate in team meetings and foster strong, positive working relationships across teams.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:

Minimum of 12 years experience with BS/BA; minimum of 10 years with MS/MA; minimum of 7 years with Ph.D.

Experience with graphic design (typography, color theory, layout design).

Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects) experience.

Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel for visual communications experience.

Demonstrated experience in:

Creating high-quality motion graphics and animations.

Full animation workflow (storyboarding, design, animation, sound integration, export).

Applying animation principles (timing, pacing, staging, cinematography).

Character illustration and rigging.

Advanced typography expertise (kerning, tracking, leading, typesetting, classifications).

Strong portfolio showcasing design and motion graphics work.

Exceptional attention to detail, including design consistency, accuracy, and proofreading.

Strong organizational skills and file management practices.

Experience with human-centered design and storytelling.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills; openness to feedback and critique.

U.S. Citizenship or Green Card Holder status required.

Ability to obtain and maintain required agency clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in medical illustration or biomedical visualization.

Experience designing for public health organizations.

Strong understanding of branding systems and maintaining visual consistency.

Experience with accessibility standards (WCAG and Section 508).

Experience with 3D design and animation tools (modeling, rendering, motion graphics).

Knowledge of video compositing and editing techniques, file compression and optimization for digital platforms.

Sound design and audio integration experience.

Familiarity with interactive and web/mobile animation design.

Experience integrating motion elements into digital platforms (GIFs, embedded video, transitions).

Experience using generative AI tools in creative workflows.

Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (including grammar for native audiences).

Target Salary Range
$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
