Job Summary
The Communications and Engagement Specialist: Digital Communications serves as the division’s lead for digital communications, content development, and online presence, working closely with the Chief Communications Officer and Communications & Engagement Team to inform, engage, and connect with school division stakeholders.

The Specialist develops and manages high-quality, timely, and strategic digital content across web, social media, and other platforms, ensuring consistent messaging, strong storytelling, and an accessible, user-centered web experience that promotes the division and highlights student, staff, and community success.

Duties and Responsibilities

Serves as the primary editor and publisher of the school division’s digital communications platforms, including the division website and official social media channels.

Develops and executes marketing campaigns and communications plans to support division initiatives, to include organic and paid campaigns.

Produces content, including text, photos, graphics, and videos, for inclusion on the division website, social media channels, print and electronic newsletters, media releases, and other platforms.

Identifies and develops storytelling opportunities that showcase student voice and highlight student achievement, staff excellence, and division initiatives.

Maintains timely, up-to-date, accurate content on the division website.

Monitors and analyzes website traffic, social media performance, and digital engagement metrics to assess effectiveness and inform content strategy.

Uses data to refine messaging, improve user experience, and increase audience engagement.

Collaborates with team members to develop and execute integrated communications and marketing campaigns that support division priorities.

Supports division-wide communication through mass messaging tool.

Produces presentations for internal and external audiences.

Ensures digital content aligns with division branding, messaging, and campaign goals.

Provides guidance, training, and support to school-based Digital Communications Liaisons.

Provides communications-related training and support to staff; monitors and supports compliance with communications standards, policies, and best practices.

Assists with the coordination of special events, projects, and/or activities that support department or division goals.

Evening and/or weekend work may be required.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)

Bachelor’s degree or demonstrated equivalent experience in fields related to communications, public relations, or marketing.

Comprehensive knowledge of strategic communications, engagement, public relations, marketing, and branding.

Comprehensive knowledge of technology applications utilized to communicate digitally.

Excellent oral and written communication skills; must be a strong storyteller.

Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively, independently, in a team environment, and with various stakeholders.

Experience in public education or the public sector preferred.

Bilingual communication skills and abilities preferred.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Must have high tolerance for change and the ability to work on several projects and assignments concurrently. Strong interpersonal skills required in working with diverse groups. Must have initiative and assume responsibility for working productively with minimal supervision. Must have the ability to sit for extended periods of time in a busy office environment; exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds.
