Overview
The Communications Specialist develops and executes comprehensive internal communications strategies that inform, engage, and educate health system employees. This role creates high-quality, feature-driven content-including stories, announcements, memoranda, and organizational materials-while ensuring alignment with Dartmouth Health's brand, messaging standards, and strategic priorities.
This position will be sitting in Claremont, NH with support to Mt. Ascutney.
Responsibilities
Develops and executes strategic internal communications plans that inform and engage employees across clinical and administrative departments, serving as a liaison between Communications & Marketing and operational stakeholders to translate organizational priorities into clear, targeted communication initiatives.
Researches, interviews, and produces high-quality written content for print, digital, and internal communication channels, including feature stories, announcements, and leadership messaging.
Maintains editorial calendar for microsystem (MAH and VRH).
Edits, proofreads, and finalizes communications materials, ensuring accuracy, clarity, brand alignment, and appropriate leadership approvals within established timelines.
Creates and disseminates internal memoranda, announcements, and employee communications that support organizational initiatives and operational updates.
Collaborates with system communications teams, including content, creative services, and media relations, to ensure consistency of messaging and brand identity across all platforms.
Partners with designers and photographers to align written content with visual elements, including layout integration, caption development, and publication readiness.
Advises stakeholders on effective communication strategies, channels, and messaging approaches to enhance reach, engagement, and organizational alignment, while coordinating with media relations and leadership to ensure consistent internal and external messaging and support responses to media inquiries in alignment with organizational guidance.
Participates in content planning activities, including editorial meetings, contributing story ideas, updates, and communication priorities.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in English, Communications or related field, with 5 years of writing/editing experience, or the equivalent in education and experience required.
Experience in health care communications strongly preferred.
Familiarity in creating and executing detailed communications plans relating to internal and external communications required.
Ability to recognize and capitalize on the communications value of Dartmouth Health events, activities and achievements.
Demonstrated strengths in stakeholder management and teamwork; ability to work productively with constituencies including system leadership, doctors, nurses, staff, and patients and families.
Ability to show judgment and poise in working effectively and accurately under tight deadlines, to deliver materials quickly, and to help resolve potential conflicts with sometimes shifting priorities.
