Overview
The Category Development Manager is the key internal and external Category Expert responsible for the development, communication and execution of Category Visions, Category Strategies & Tactics, and Go-To-Market Plans. The role reports to the Senior Manager, Category Development and will collaborate closely with Marketing, Sales and Shopper Marketing, utilizing the full data and analytical resources of the company on shopper insight, data sources, syndicated and ad-hoc research to develop a Category Vision and become the Category Expert. This role is based in Stamford, CT on a hybrid working model, with requirement to commute to Stamford three times per week.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, communicate and execute Category Visions, Strategies & Tactics, and Go-To-Market Plans.

Act as an active business advisor influencing stakeholders and securing buy‑in.

Define commercialization of innovation through category‑based storytelling rooted in shopper insights to support internal partners and external retail customers.

Bring compelling, actionable insights that inspire strategic customers to implement growth strategies for assigned categories and Beiersdorf brands.

Deliver insight‑based presentations and highlight opportunities to drive category growth through the Category Vision.

Establish and maintain strong customer relationships and thought leadership.

Utilize category analysis, shopper insights and analytic tools to drive solutions for Beiersdorf and customers.

Develop insights, identify opportunities and communicate recommendations to lead future industry growth.

Create and share stories with retailers that provide insight into how shopper behaviors influence the categories.

Lead insight‑led presentations and forge relationships to drive innovative distribution, assortment and shelf strategies.

Planogram recommendations and shelf management guidance.

Provide distribution & assortment guidance and gap closure for high‑risk items.

Coordinate test & learn sell‑in initiatives.

Requirements

BS/BA in relevant field; Marketing or Business Administration preferred.

3+ years of experience in strategic, omni‑channel consumer and shopper marketing or category management for CPG.

Technology savvy with strong office productivity software skills (e.g., PowerPoint, Excel, JDA, Numerator, Nielsen/IRI).

Strategic thinker able to translate brand strategy into category‑relevant strategy.

Creative thinker who can create retailer‑relevant sales arguments supporting Beiersdorf strategies.

Strong interpersonal, innovative, flexible, proactive, service‑mindful, and team‑player attitude.

In‑depth knowledge of retailers and buying dynamics and shoppers’ motivations.

Project management skills with ability to meet deadlines.

Excellent oral and written communication skills to influence and secure cross‑functional support.

Strong analytical skills and business acumen to build robust business cases.
