Overview

We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Product Designer and Developer. This role blends creative design with hands-on prototyping, testing, and production. Working from our fully equipped in-house factory, which includes fabric supply, sewing, and foam cutting services, you’ll design and develop high-quality, comfortable, and market-ready soft furniture products.

The ideal candidate is passionate about design, comfort, and materials, and can manage the product lifecycle from concept through production—including e-commerce readiness for platforms like Amazon.

Location: Simi Valley, CA (local candidates only)

Responsibilities

  • Design original bean bag furniture concepts using company-supplied foam and fabric materials.
  • Analyze market trends and competitor products to identify opportunities for innovation and differentiation.
  • Improve existing designs while aligning with our brand identity and quality standards.
  • Develop and build physical prototypes using in-house resources, including fabric selection, sewing, and foam cutting.
  • Collaborate with our factory team to optimize design for manufacturability, comfort, and durability.
  • Continuously refine construction methods for better efficiency and product performance.
  • Conduct comfort, usability, and durability testing on prototypes.
  • Gather feedback from internal and external stakeholders to inform design adjustments.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and internal quality standards.
  • Select and source high-performance fabrics and materials, focusing on quality, comfort, aesthetics, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends and innovations in textile and foam technology.
  • Coordinate product photography and visual presentation of prototypes for digital platforms.
  • Support creation of product listings, including compelling descriptions and technical specifications for platforms like Amazon.
  • Assist in curating product lines and collections based on market research and prototype performance.
  • Oversee the full product development lifecycle, from ideation through manufacturing and launch.
  • Work cross-functionally with internal teams to meet project deadlines and ensure product readiness.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of design iterations, test results, material specifications, and production methods.

Experience and Qualifications

  • 5+ years of proven experience in product design, especially in furniture, soft goods, or upholstery.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping and working in a production or factory setting.
  • Knowledge of materials, sewing techniques, and foam structuring.
  • Strong understanding of e-commerce and digital product presentation.
  • Excellent project communication and organizational skills.
