The Marketing & Communications Specialist supports the development and execution of Washburn Center for Children’s marketing and communication strategies to advance awareness, engagement, and philanthropy. This role plays a key part in elevating the organization’s mission to nurture children’s mental health and strengthen families.
The ideal candidate is a dynamic, creative, and entrepreneurial professional who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and enjoys managing multiple priorities. They are an exceptional writer with strong marketing instincts, design awareness, and the ability to translate complex or technical information into clear, compelling content for diverse audiences.
This role is part of a mission-driven organization committed to equity, trauma-informed practice, and culturally respectful communication. The Specialist will collaborate closely with Program, Development, and Executive teams to amplify Washburn Center’s voice and impact in the community.
Responsibilities

Content Creation & Digital Communications

Develop and manage written, visual, and digital content for Washburn Center’s website, email campaigns, social media channels, and other digital platforms.
Maintain and regularly update the organization’s digital assets, ensuring accuracy, quality, and brand consistency across all channels.
Produce marketing materials, presentations, event collateral, and promotional assets that reflect Washburn Center’s voice and values.
Storytelling & Program Engagement

Partner strategically with leadership and internal teams to create content that highlights programs, impact stories, clinical outcomes, and organizational achievements and change initiatives.
Assist with media relations, storytelling, and communications that promote the mission, community partnerships, and agency impact.
Campaign & Donor Engagement Support

Collaborate with the Development and Program teams to plan strategic messaging and creative campaigns in support of event and donor communications mapping to philanthropic and financial sustainability goals.
Support the creation of materials that enhance donor stewardship, fundraising initiatives, and community engagement.
Analytics & Strategic Insight

Create systems and efficiencies that enable more strategic marketing impact and effectiveness as agency grows.
Monitor analytics and engagement metrics across websites, email platforms, and social media to inform strategy and improve performance.
Apply insights to enhance audience reach, increase engagement, and optimize digital content.
Brand & Equity Alignment

Ensure all communications align with Washburn Center’s brand voice, values, equity principles, and commitment to culturally responsive practice.
Maintain high standards of accessibility, accuracy, and inclusiveness across all communications.
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field—or equivalent combination of education and experience is required
3–6 years of professional experience in marketing, communications, or digital content management is required
Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to tailor messages for varied audiences and channels is required
Demonstrated experience managing websites, email campaigns, and social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube) is required
Working knowledge of graphic design and content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is required
Strong project management skills and the ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines is required
Strong visual design sense, creativity, and attention to detail is required
Commitment to advancing children’s mental health and deep alignment with equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive communication is required
Experience working in a nonprofit, social services, or mission-driven organization is strongly preferred
Familiarity with analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Meta Insights, email platform reporting, and SEO best practices is strongly preferred
Experience with leveraging AI, content platforms to build functional efficiency and systems is strongly preferred
Basic photography, videography, or multimedia editing experience is strongly preferred
Experience supporting fundraising, donor engagement, or philanthropic communications is strongly preferred
