Area Sales Manager

Reporting to the Area Director of Sales and Marketing, the Area Sales Manager is responsible for soliciting new accounts, within the designated markets, while also maintaining and nurturing existing relationships, with the objective of meeting, and surpassing, their assigned guest room and food & beverage and revenue goals. Through effective relationship building and account management they will deliver the highest levels of guest service and will ensure ongoing client satisfaction. They will be creative, energetic, and knowledgeable professional, and will be fundamental to the ongoing success of the hotel.
Key responsibilities include managing and driving sales efforts across two or more assigned hotel properties, ensuring alignment with overall revenue goals and brand standards; responding to assigned market leads/inquiries within two hours; preparing and submitting required reports in a timely manner; understanding both monthly forecasting and the annual budget process; having a comprehensive knowledge of all operational departments within the hotel; optimizing room rates and rental charges; thorough knowledge of sales techniques including closing and negotiating skills; ability to work with outside vendors to ensure client satisfaction for all events/groups; monitoring group room blocks and pick-up; leading hotel site inspections and client presentations; fields numerous inquiry calls and walk-ins, providing information and availability of facilities; booking groups and events through phone inquiries, appointments, and marketing; continuously designing, monitoring and regulating the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of all Sales automation technology and record keeping; continuously educating all Event Planners on hotel procedures, such as: Meal Guarantees, Set-Up Styles, Payment Terms, All Available Hotel Services, etc; knowing sleeping room configurations and types; keeping immediate supervisor fully informed of all problems or matters requiring his/her attention; managing existing accounts and follow up with client re-solicitation to capture future business; working with other departments within the hotel to provide exceptional service to clients; using feedback from client evaluations to improve service and quality; attending community/social events and industry meetings; developing/maintaining knowledge of market trends, competition and customers; working collaboratively with the Sales and Marketing team to promote initiatives; submitting weekly activities reports; logging activities, contacts, and communication.
Required qualifications include experience managing sales efforts across multiple properties or complex portfolios preferred; a complete understanding forecasting, selling, Comp set; highly motivated individual who can work independently; ability to handle confidential information discretely and in the proper manner; self-starter, and possess excellent presentation skills; proven track record of successful sales history; 4-year bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Hotel and Restaurant Management or related major preferred; minimum 5 years sales experience in hotel environment; all colleagues must maintain a neat, and well-groomed appearance (specific standards will be provided); this Sales Manager position has a requirement for business travel.
