Activewear Designer - Boys

Our client, an apparel company, is looking for an Activewear Designer for their boys division to join their team in NYC!

Responsibilities
Design and develop boys’ activewear collections from concept through production, ensuring alignment with brand identity and seasonal direction
Research market trends, competitive landscape, and consumer preferences to create innovative, performance-driven designs
Develop mood boards, color palettes, prints, and graphics tailored to boys’ activewear categories
Create detailed flat sketches, technical packages (tech packs), and construction details for factory execution
Collaborate cross-functionally with product development, merchandising, sourcing, and production teams to bring designs to market
Select and approve fabrics, trims, and performance materials (moisture-wicking, stretch, durability, etc.)
Review samples, fittings, and prototypes; provide clear feedback to ensure fit, function, and quality standards are met
Ensure designs meet cost targets, margin goals, and production timelines
Maintain awareness of licensing requirements if applicable (e.g., character or branded collaborations)
Support presentation of seasonal concepts to internal teams and retail partners
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or a related field
3–6+ years of experience in boys’ apparel or activewear design
Strong understanding of performance fabrics, garment construction, and fit for activewear
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and PLM systems
Ability to translate trends into commercial, functional designs for the target customer
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication and collaboration skills across teams and with overseas factories
Detail-oriented with a strong eye for color, print, and design aesthetics
Knowledge of product lifecycle, from concept through production
Experience working with mid-tier to mass-market retailers is a plus
