Location: Lincoln, NE. Hiring rate: $40.574. Pay Grade 11: $84,393.74/year ($85,448.66/year after pay structure increases on June 29, 2026). Office Location: 84th & O St, Lincoln, NE.

The Nebraska Department of Education's Vocational Rehabilitation office is looking for an Office Director who leads with purpose. In this role, you’ll collaborate to provide strategic leadership for our Lincoln, Nebraska VR office—working alongside a collaborative team and partnering with community providers, organizations, and employers to help people with disabilities build pathways to meaningful work.

Essential Functions
- Oversees and provides technical assistance, information, and guidance related to VR and interpretation of program guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Identifies potential new programs and services, resolves program issues, and assesses client satisfaction levels and ongoing quality assurance measures.
- Facilitates communication and builds a strong relationship between Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) staff, contractors, and key stakeholders including schools, state agencies, and other business and industry partners.
- Collaborates with and advises Vocational Rehabilitation leadership on significant issues, program developments, and operations of program. Maintains an understanding of the programs, services, and operational functions and appropriately implements policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Assists with annual and biennial budgets and monitors program fiscal activities and operating expenses.
- Provides leadership in the hiring, supervision, and potential discipline of staff. Conducts performance management activities including establishing annual goals related to the strategic plan, holding check‑in meetings to discuss goal progress, and completing performance appraisals. Facilitates a continuous learning environment by promoting professional development to ensure all employees have the opportunity and skills to be efficient and effective in meeting the goals of the agency. Delegates work and projects appropriately among staff.
- Maintains regular & reliable attendance, possesses a valid driver’s license and travels independently, and works in a variety of settings.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five years of experience related to the essential functions of the position. Any equivalent education and/or work experience may be substituted to meet the minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., Vocational Rehabilitation Administration, Counseling, Evaluation, Public Administration, Management), experience working with people with significant disabilities, and previous successful leadership experience in a state Vocational Rehabilitation agency or human services agency.
