Digital Media Teacher

I. GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The teacher assists the Church and the school in the mission of evangelizing. The teacher contributes to fostering the Catholic School culture by serving as a witness to students and to the community. By bearing witness to Christ, His Church, and the teachings of our Catholic faith, the teacher cooperates with Christ in the academic, spiritual, and social education of our high school students. The teacher leads, instructs, and utilizes effective pedagogy; obtains necessary academic certificates and continued professional development; maintains detailed and accurate records as required by the school, and imparts a Catholic worldview through the curriculum. In addition to academic preparation, record-keeping and accountability, the teacher, as a member of a "house" within St. John Paul II Catholic High School, serves as a mentor and campus minister to students.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education:
Establishes an atmosphere where students can encounter the living Christ
Promotes and lives the gospel values and Catholic moral teaching
Upholds the doctrinal teachings of the Catholic Church
Forms students to have true freedom
Assumes responsibility for the leadership and management of the classes assigned:
Provides a positive learning environment with understanding of inherent dignity of each person
Has a mature understanding of the beauty, truth, and goodness
Appreciates and fosters a Catholic worldview and knowledge of objective truth
Organizes the classroom to facilitate student learning
Supervises and provides for the safety, welfare, and care of the students while they are in school
Works toward a creation of a Catholic community within the classroom and the entire school community
Teaches in accordance with diocesan and local policies as well as appropriate state laws
Develops and implements a daily and weekly schedule to effectively meet the goals of curriculum
Develops and implements an instructional program according to the needs of the students and the established Diocesan Curriculum Standards:
Determines level of student achievement
Evaluates students in relation to Diocesan and School Curriculum Standards
Uses appropriate teaching strategies to meet individual student needs
Uses a variety of instructional strategies
Incorporates technology into instruction with an understanding of the school's philosophy of digital media and technology
Refers students for evaluation and consultation when necessary in collaboration with administration and parents
Maintains accurate records in all record keeping as required by the school:
Maintains proper grading and/or reporting system for each student as required by the principal
Meets deadlines with official classroom reports, attendance, and statistics as required by the principal
Establishes positive school community relationships:
Communicates effectively with students and parents in accordance with the school's communication guidelines
Is a positive influence, good representative, and proactive communicator
Maintains cooperative relationships with all in the school community
Cooperates with and helps promotes various curricular and co-curricular programs within the school
Promotes and participates in community service
Actively participates in school faculty meetings and in services
Plans for, participates, and completes professional development to remain current with religious and academic certifications:
Keeps informed of current instructional practices through professional reading and educational opportunities
Participates in professional activities and joins appropriate professional organizations
Attends diocesan sponsored in-services
Attends and actively participates in school faculty meetings and in-services
Actively participates in the process of continuous school improvement
Maintains personal professional development records
Performs any other job related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the Principal or Assistant Principal
III. REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS

Practicing Catholic who is joyfully faithful to the church's tradition and teaching
Must hold a Bachelor's Degree
Able to "stir up awe at and desire for the beautiful, form the sensitivity of souls and nourish the passion for all that which is an authentic expression of the human genius and a reflection of divine beauty." - Saint John Paul II's 1999 Letter to Artists
Understands the complementary relationships between faith and reason
Thinks, plans and makes decisions with prudential judgement and right reason
Knowledge and experience using good teaching techniques that work in a 90 minute class period
Certifiable by the Arizona Department of Education as a teacher
Meets Ministry Formation Certification as required by Diocesan policy
Organized, creative and able to show initiative
Must complete the Safe Environment Training for the Diocese of Phoenix
AZ FBI Fingerprint clearance card required
