Overview
CBS Newspath is seeking an Associate Producer with a strong commitment to journalism to coordinate news production and newsgathering operations for its overnight Desk team. This position helps manage the network's response to breaking news and responds to video and editorial requests from CBS broadcasts, owned stations, affiliates and clients. The candidate must have experience in working with sources to confirm and verify facts and video elements, especially during breaking news. The ability to gather the elements producers need to put together packages and vo/sots for the biggest stories of the day is critical. The candidate must be familiar with major social media platforms and vehicles for engaging audiences on a digital level. Part of this position’s editorial responsibilities is to identify viral and pre-trending content and turn it around for the brand, with an understanding of social-friendly videos (including rights and clearances). The position includes overnight and weekend responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate news production and newsgathering operations for the overnight Desk team.
- Manage the network's response to breaking news and respond to video and editorial requests from CBS broadcasts, owned stations, affiliates and clients.
- Clip and publish Newspath video and scripts; assist in the transmission and distribution of live video, edited video and correspondent packages.
- Collaborate with sources to confirm and verify facts and video elements, especially during breaking news.
- Gather elements for packages and vo/sot segments for major stories.
- Identify viral and pre-trending content suitable for the brand and adapt for social platforms.
- Adhere to rights and clearance requirements for social-friendly videos.
Qualifications
- 3 years local and/or network TV news experience or show producer experience preferred.
- Strong editorial judgment and excellent writing skills.
- Strong editing skills; Avid experience is preferred.
- Highly developed relationship-building skills.
- Ability to multi-task and thrive in a dynamic, quickly-changing environment.
- Focus on multi-media content.
- Understanding of TV newsgathering and transmission technology.
- Knowledge of regional television markets and station relationships is a plus.
- Degree in broadcast journalism or related field preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
Hiring Salary Range: $66,300.00 - $67,000.00. The range applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay depends on location, market demands, experience, training, and education. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or as otherwise dictated by the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
