Media Engineer II This position supports and sustains enterprise-level media production and content distribution platforms. The role focuses on troubleshooting live and on-demand broadcast environments, maintaining system uptime, and supporting tier-2 escalations across SDI, IP, and cloud-based media systems. This role is at the crossroads of hardware and software-based technology, focusing on the sustainability of existing technology within a tiered sustainment model, resolving complex issues, and performing system integration and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Respond to and resolve issues affecting production, broadcast, and content distribution, including system outages and technical problems.
Conduct diagnostic testing, repair, and replacement activities for specialized and complex problems.
Analyze and troubleshoot streaming audio/video signals in traditional SDI and IP 2110 essence flow routing environments.
Perform and coordinate preventative maintenance on broadcast systems and equipment.
Utilize system health and performance monitoring software to troubleshoot and repair system problems and failures.
Perform upgrades to system hardware and software workflows under supervision.
Review, maintain, and contribute to system and workflow documentation.
Participate in training, development objectives, and peer training sessions.
Required Qualifications
Education: A high school degree or equivalent experience is required.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in ensuring the efficient sustainment, uptime, and stability of live television production and distribution environments is necessary.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with technologies such as microservices and DevOps tools.
Knowledge of on-prem and cloud-based storage and compute infrastructure; at least one foundational cloud certification is required (e.g., Microsoft Azure Fundamentals, CompTIA Cloud+, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate).
Proficiency in SMPTE standards for broadcast television (e.g., ST 2110, ST 2022-7).
Experience with compression techniques such as MPEG2/4, HEVC, and JPEG 2000.
Knowledge of major media systems including asset management, file-based workflows, transcoding, graphics, and NAS/SAN technologies.
Experience with Evertz software control systems (e.g., VistaLink, Magnum) and monitoring software.
Proven troubleshooting and sustainment skills in IP-based broadcast equipment, studio technology, file-based workflows, production control systems, or transmission systems.
Ability to create, read, and interpret AutoCAD and other technical drawings.
Preferred Qualifications
Scripting proficiency in Python, NodeJS, Bash, or PowerShell is an advantage.
Knowledge of Nielsen (NACAT), VANC equipment, Linear Acoustics, and related systems.
Experience with coordinated receiver decoders (IRDs), core devices, edge devices, and timing of video and audio systems.
Work Environment
This position requires full onsite support due to the physical requirements of the role, including managing systems in equipment rooms and supporting operators. The role involves working 12-hour shifts. The ability to climb ladders, work on raised structures, operate lift platforms, and possess a valid driver's license is required.
Compensation & Benefits
The anticipated pay range for this position is between $50.00 and $70.00 per hour. Please note that this pay range is a good faith estimate that may be impacted by factors such as the candidate's qualifications, experience, and location.
