With PayPal Everywhere, PayPal is extending trusted, secure, seamless payments across both online and offline experiences. The In‑Store Experiences team brings PayPal into stores, restaurants, transit, events, and more, using tap‑to‑pay, QR codes, rewards, and loyalty to give consumers more value and convenience. We sit at the center of PayPal's global consumer strategy, enabling people to Pay Everywhere, Pay Their Way, and Get the Most Value, while helping merchants grow and deepen customer relationships. Our first launch—the contactless tap‑to‑pay wallet in Germany—and PayPal World, which supports payments in hundreds of currencies, show the scale of this vision. This role has a strong international focus, with deep research and design across markets worldwide.
Essential Responsibilities:
Develop and articulate clear objectives in enhancing user and customer experiences that deliver results and meet organizational goals
Influence decision-making at the senior leadership level
Perform the most highly complex digital and physical products and services using domain knowledge and extensive business expertise
Develop and deliver innovative strategies that benefit customers and product users
Lead major business projects which impact the Experience Design job family
Design, evaluate, and select process, product, and service improvements based on thorough understanding of user and customer needs and industry trends
Mentor and guide junior team members in user-centered design practices.
Minimum Qualifications:
8+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:
The Sr. Staff Designer serves as the team's Craft Master—setting the bar for exceptional visual, UI, and interaction quality. This role is hands-on, driving design excellence while also leading design thinking and occasional discovery workshops to fuel innovation. You have an exemplary portfolio of highly polished, consumer mobile experiences.
You are equal parts creative and analytical. You are a strong storyteller, persuasive, and know how to bring people together with positive, collaborative energy.
You have evidence of pushing beyond the status quo, bringing to life new ways of thinking, interaction paradigms, and have a curiosity to turn over stones to discover potential new problems we may have overlooked as a business. You raise the bar in your own work and others – exploring wide across the opportunity space, then going deep to dial in the perfect solution, with a care to bring delight and friction-free interactions to each moment of the journey.
Finally, you are AI-curious. You will have an edge if you've used AI deeply in your work as a designer and have evidence of how you've dug into staying current with AI tools to improve the design work of you and your larger team through efficiency, quality, rich-prototypes and internal applications.
This role is part of PayPal's Experience Design organization, spanning Consumer, Merchant, Research, Content, Design Systems, and Operations. The team is shaping the future of PayPal beyond transactions—designing end-to-end commerce experiences that engage customers before, during, and after payment. Led by PayPal's Chief Design Officer, Experience Design works closely with Engineering, Product, Brand, and Marketing in fast-moving, multi-disciplinary pods focused on bold ideas and real market impact.
