Job Description
The Social Media Manager in the Public Affairs department of the New York City Campaign Finance Board leads the execution of social media content across NYC Votes and CFB digital platforms, with a strong emphasis on social‑first, vertical video content. Reporting to the Digital Media Strategist, the role strategizes, creates, and maintains content calendars, supports influencer partnerships, and engages priority audiences across platforms.

Responsibilities

Create digital content for NYC Votes and the NYC Campaign Finance Board, primarily short‑form video and social media copy.

Maintain a social media content calendar aligned with election cycles and strategic priorities.

Support influencer campaigns by pitching new partners, crafting creative briefs, and providing campaign analysis.

Collect, analyze, and report on digital content performance, providing data‑driven insights to optimize campaigns and inform stakeholders.

Provide rapid‐response content during high‑intensity periods, ensuring accurate and accessible information for all audiences.

Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to execute campaigns that engage priority audiences, including youth voters, voters with disabilities, LOTE communities, and justice‑impacted voters.

Ensure all content meets accessibility, inclusivity, and language access standards.

Content creation best practices for video, graphic, and copy across Instagram, X, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Reddit, and emerging digital channels.

Social media strategy and platform‑specific best practices.

Social media analytics, listening tools, performance benchmarks, and evaluation methods.

Content planning and editorial practices with election and organizational goals.

Audience growth & engagement: segmenting, growing, and designing strategies for diverse community groups.

Influencer and partnership: identifying, engaging, and supporting campaigns aligned with objectives.

Accessibility & compliance standards, including WCAG, plain language requirements, multilingual communication, and nonpartisan messaging.

Skills

Editorial & copy writing: craft engaging, plain‑language copy for short‑form and long‑form content.

Video production: create short‑form, social‑first video content.

Digital content planning: translate marketing objectives into video, graphic, and copy deliverables.

Data analysis & reporting: collect social media data, interpret analytics, and make data‑informed decisions.

Project & workflow management: maintain content calendars, coordinate with team members, and meet deadlines accurately.

Brand voice: sustain and develop the agency’s voice across platforms.

Collaboration & cross‑functional coordination: work effectively with internal teams and external vendors.

Influencer program: identify trusted messengers, research partnership strategies, support performance tracking.

Rapid response: draft and execute timely responses to voter questions and manage risk across social platforms.

Abilities

Analytical Thinking: evaluate content performance and set & interpret KPIs.

Prioritization & time management: handle multiple campaigns and content calendars under tight deadlines.

Audience‑centric approach: design content and strategies that effectively reach priority audiences.

Problem solving: anticipate operational issues (e.g., publishing delays, negative engagement) and implement solutions efficiently.

Leadership & supervision: guide and supervise a Social Media Intern in content strategy and influencer programs.

Communication: convey strategy, guidance, and performance insights to internal teams, leadership, and external partners.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in video production, communications, journalism, marketing, public policy, or a related field; advanced degree or equivalent experience is a plus.

2–4 years of experience in social media management, content creation, or digital content strategy.

Proven ability to develop content for diverse and multilingual audiences, with understanding of accessibility and language‑access best practices.

Strong on‑camera presence.

Familiarity with New York City government, civic engagement initiatives, or voter education.

Proficiency in Spanish, Bangla, Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese), or Korean to support content development and engagement.

Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. Certain City Employees who have worked for the City for two continuous years may be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
