Music Instructor/Choral Director (

Part-Time)

position (29 hours per week maximum)
Salary: This is a part-time only position . Pay for this position is

$28,500 annually

($2,375 monthly) with no additional benefits. Time worked per week will not exceed twenty-nine (29) hours.
This is a part-time, probationary position and is responsible for the supervision and coordination of activities for music application, both theory and practice.

Anticipated Begin Date: Immediately, as negotiated

SUMMARY
The primary task of an instructor at Chattahoochee Valley Community College is to instruct students in activities designed to promote intellectual growth. Essential duties and responsibilities of an instructor include commitments to students in the classroom, the teaching discipline, students outside the classroom, to the College, and to the community. The Music Instructor/Choral Director teaches students in music application, both theory and practice. The instructor also offers an introduction to some common musical instruments and directs choir performances. In addition, as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), this position agrees to report to the official or office designated by the institution to collect crime report information, such as the campus police or security department, those allegations of Clery Act crimes that the CSA concludes were made in good faith.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned by the Department Chair or his/her supervisors.
Commitment to Students in the Classroom:

Designs and administers at least three evaluations for grade determination each semester.
Demonstrates knowledge in teaching discipline.
Teaches assigned classes.
Meets assigned classes regularly, on time, and for scheduled periods of time.
Uses written objectives as criteria for evaluation of student performance.
Uses appropriate teaching-learning aids, materials, and methodologies.
Maintains accurate class records.
Prepares course syllabi and objectives in conjunction with departmental guidelines.
Submits syllabi to the Department Chairperson for approval.
Distributes syllabi and objectives in all classes.
Commitment to Teaching Discipline:

Engages in appropriate professional development in order to remain current in discipline and teaching techniques; remains current with changing and emerging instructional technology in the field of music.
Participates in departmental selection of texts and teaching materials.
Reviews and modifies course curriculum to meet student learning outcomes.
Recommends, through the Chair, appropriate supplementary and complementary subject materials for the Learning Resources Center.
Actively participates in and works with other college personnel in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials in order to provide students with optimal learning opportunities.
Commitment to Students Outside the Classroom:

Maintains appropriate office hours.
Serves as academic advisor as assigned.
Assists students in course selection as assigned.
Accurately assesses student performance, communicates with the students regularly, and assigns grades appropriately.
Participates in the registration process as assigned.
Commitment to the College:

Participates in the College's planning process at the appropriate level.
Performs duties within established time frames (i.e., submission of class/office hour forms, class rosters, course grades, reports, etc.)
Participates in required college events, such as graduation, academic awards banquet, annual musical performances, and other assigned events.
Maintains a neat, appropriate, and professional appearance at all times.
Adheres to all policies and procedures set forth by the College and/or the department.
Responds to all administrative requests in a timely, professional manner.
Assists in the recruitment of choral music students, conducts auditions, and assists in the management of choral scholarship students.
Interacts with a diverse student population in a courteous and friendly manner.
Adheres to College standards of professionalism and confidentiality, including courteous and friendly interaction with other CVCC employees.
Commitment to the Community:

Represents the institution in a positive manner.

Qualifications
Interviews will only be extended to applicants who meet the minimum required qualifications.

The following are the minimum required qualifications for this position:
Bachelor's degree in music or a related humanities field from a regionally accredited institution
Three (3) years of teaching experience as a music/choral instructor
Two (2) years of experience leading a choir
Specialized training or experience in Choral Directorship and Group Performance
Appropriate degree, certifications, and experience required for technical instructors
Professional appearance and demeanor
Ability to meet the public in a friendly and receptive manner

INTERVIEW PROCESS:

The Recruitment and Selection Committee will screen all applicants for the position and select applicants for interviews. Interviews may consist of the following activities: question/answer session and/or skills demonstration. Upon completion of the interviews, the Committee will recommend a finalist for the position to the appropriate dean and the President, after which final employment decisions will be made.
