Position Summary
This is specialized artistic, scientific, and technical work that involves the preparation of anatomical, pathological, and surgical illustrations, 3‑D models and animations, and other media used in biomedical communications. The position requires significant knowledge of science and the use of specialized software to plan, design, organize, and produce a wide range of educational materials. The work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Educational Resources and functions with considerable independence on technical assignments.
This position has a limited term appointment which is expected to end 2 years after the start date. The position may be extended beyond the initial term contingent upon continued funding.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in medical illustration, 3‑D modeling, animation, or related fields
Proficiency in current technologies and specialized software such as Cinema 4D, Maya, Unity, Unreal, ZBrush, Photoshop, and After Effects
Knowledge of anatomy, pathology, surgery, and major branches of medical sciences
Strong communication skills, ability to facilitate problem resolution, and promote excellent customer service
Experience with virtual reality, augmented reality, or 3‑D virtual learning tools
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies
Extensive knowledge of artistic media applicable to the representation of scientific subjects
Proficiency in specialized software used to create illustrations, 3‑D models, animations, and to present these to scientific audiences
Considerable knowledge of anatomy, pathology, surgery, and medical sciences
Effective communication skills for problem resolution, developing solutions, and customer service
Training in virtual reality, augmented reality, and 3‑D modeling for teaching activities

Lift and carry up to 20 pounds, assisted and unassisted
Fine finger dexterity for designing and building models and exhibits
Use computer technology for all applications
Verbal communication with clients and visual interpretation of graphic images
Maintain focus on detailed information and reach appropriate conclusions
Manage multiple priorities and adapt to continual change requests
Duties and Responsibilities
40% – Works effectively with faculty and staff to prepare illustrations, 3‑D models, animations, and diagrams for professional journals, posters, brochures, and lecture demonstrations, ensuring timely project completion.
30% – Stays current with new technologies, recommends and implements innovative solutions to meet customer needs, attends technology conferences, and integrates new tools into educational activities.
25% – Autonomously researches, analyzes, and selects technologies to address complex educational challenges, requiring minimal direction and ensuring project prioritization.
5% – Serves as a consultant for other departments, creates logos, translates technical data into effective designs for charts and graphs, designs and builds exhibits, and performs additional tasks within the scope of the position.
