Technician I Per Diem-UCHC NSP (multiple vacancies)

Overview
University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), operating within Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, provides medical care to individuals in the criminal justice system. UCHC has a budget of $150 million and approximately 1,000 staff.

Position Summary
Rutgers University Correctional Health Care seeks a Per Diem Technician I to serve as part of the clinical and administrative medical team at Northern State Prison, Newark, NJ.

Responsibilities

Takes vital signs, height, and weight and documents in electronic medical records (EMR).

Assists the physician/associate practitioner with procedures, including preparing inmates for examinations.

Obtains specimen collection and handling, including drawing blood.

Assists with cleaning, sterilization, and securing of equipment within the Health Service Unit.

Maintains supply stock in the Health Service Unit and examination rooms; orders supplies in a timely manner.

Aggregates medication orders and forwards them to the pharmacy provider or local pharmacy.

Qualifications

Valid Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification.

Minimum two (2) years of progressively responsible related healthcare experience across multiple areas of knowledge, skill, and abilities, demonstrating competency to perform essential duties.

CPR certification.

Valid driver’s license and own or alternative transportation to move between sites.

Salary and Benefits
Hourly rate: $18.45. Minimum salary: $15.92; mid-range: $50.00; maximum: $150.00. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and available funds.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Must perform CPR for at least 10 minutes and assist in lifting and rotating patients up to 50 pounds.

Special Conditions
Must be approved by the Department of Corrections and adhere to all DOC requirements.

Immunization Requirements
Depending on the timing of employment, proof of vaccination against seasonal influenza may be required. Employees may be required to provide proof of vaccination or obtain a medical or religious exemption.
