Technician I Per Diem-UCHC NSP (multiple vacancies)

Overview
University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), operating within Rutgers University, provides health services in the criminal justice system.

Posting Summary
We are seeking a Per Diem I Medical Assistant for Northern State Prison, Newark, NJ. The Technician I functions as a member of the clinical and administrative medical team.

Takes vital signs, height and weight, and documents in electronic medical records (EMR).

Assists physician/associate practitioner with procedures, including preparing the inmate for examination.

Obtains specimen collection and handling, including drawing blood.

Assists with cleaning, sterilization, and securing of equipment within the Health Service Unit.

Maintains or assists in maintaining the supply stock in the Health Service Unit and examination rooms.

Aggregates medication orders and forwards to pharmacy provider/local pharmacy.

Qualifications

Valid Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification.

At least two (2) years of progressively responsible related healthcare experience in multiple areas.

CPR certification.

Valid driver’s license and own vehicle or alternative transportation to the site.

Physical Demands
Must be able to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate, up to 50 pounds.

Special Conditions
Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.

Salary
Hourly rate: $18.45 (may vary based on qualifications and experience).
