Part-Time Announcer
KUOW has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time Announcer (0.5 FTE) to join the team.
About this Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Audience, the Announcer is responsible for delivering high-quality on-air programming while operating broadcast systems to ensure seamless execution of live and automated content. This position supports KUOW's mission by maintaining broadcast continuity, accuracy, and production quality across daily programming. The role combines on-air talent with technical board operation in a fast-paced, deadline-driven media environment.
This is a part-time position at 50% FTE. Salary will be prorated accordingly. Work may include evenings, early mornings, weekends, and holidays, based on broadcast needs.
Key Responsibilities
Perform live on-air announcing and board operation for assigned shifts – 25%
Deliver live and pre-recorded programming with accuracy, clarity, and adherence to KUOW standards – 20%
Write, edit, produce, and voice underwriting spots and break content – 15%
Monitor broadcast systems, internal communications, and news wires for programming updates and changes – 10%
Operate and manage digital broadcast systems (e.g., Content Depot, PRX, Zetta, NewsBoss) – 10%
Ensure smooth transitions between programming elements and maintain broadcast schedule integrity – 10%
Provide production and operational support for programming as needed – 5%
Participate in on-air fundraising campaigns and special programming – 3%
Provide backup coverage for other announcer shifts as assigned – 2%
Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and one year of professional experience including audio production and announcing
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in public radio, news broadcasting, or a similar media environment
Demonstrated proficiency with digital broadcast and newsroom systems
Strong writing, editing, and on-air communication skills
Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a live environment
