WSP is searching for a Senior Transmission Line Engineer to engage within our Power Delivery Team, contributing to projects that meet client objectives and solve challenges. Responsibilities include generating accurate reports and documentation on materials, installations, and construction specifications, ensuring delivery meets or exceeds industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Responsibilities
- Project Support
- Lead and/or support the initial project execution layout to ensure an efficient and effective project plan is established.
- Manage engineers, drafters, and designers on small to medium‑size engineering projects and interface directly with clients.
- Create and maintain a project schedule and budget.
- Conduct weekly or bi‑weekly project meetings to outline upcoming deliverables and tasks with responsible personnel identified.
- Coordinate with clients on project status and support project meetings as necessary.
- Maintain project workflow and thorough communication across multidisciplinary projects, both internal and external to WSP.
- Forecast upcoming project requirements to assist in resource planning.
- Facilitate and adhere to WSP’s QA/QC procedures to ensure the correct personnel performs required QA/QC reviews.
- Participate in industry conferences, internally and externally, to improve professional growth and foster knowledge transfer to colleagues.
- Develop transmission line design knowledge pertaining to PLS‑CADD, structure staking, foundations, assembly drawings, steel pole performance loading, material procurement, construction specification, and construction support.
- Project Manager Support
- Maintain project status reports.
- Provide weekly or bi‑weekly project updates and forecasting.
- Lead and/or support PM by meeting with clients in person or remotely.
- Develop client relationships to position WSP for future work.
- Department Manager Support
- Support resource forecast planning for current and upcoming project loads.
- Participate in new hire screening and review processes.
- Provide business improvement methodologies and procedures.
- Discuss project or department personnel conflicts, performance issues, and collaborate on constructive resolutions.
- Contribute to business planning and budgeting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 5 to 7 years of post‑education engineering experience and prior civil design experience.
- Engineer in Training certification.
- Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and application to permitting and project work‑related issues.
- Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; rehabilitation and new design.
- Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
- Knowledge of processes and concepts for reducing and eliminating hazardous substances/greenhouse gas.
- Knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others and expressing ideas effectively to engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
- Effective self‑leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
- Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, mathematics, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Experience with discipline‑specific design software (MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS).
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis, and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Engineering.
- Electric utility industry experience.
- Professional Engineering licensure.
- Experience managing projects and leading multi‑disciplined teams.
- Design experience up to 230 kV.
- Distribution design experience.
- At least 3 years of experience using POLE, TOWER, and FAD tools software packages.
- Transmission line routing.
- Transmission foundation design.
- Transmission structure load and design.
- Cost estimating and scheduling.
- Experience using L‑Pile and Microsoft Projects.
- Essential professional licensure/certification.
- 40‑hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) preferred.
- Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
