Carpenter 1 (1st Shift) - Selinsgrove Center

Position Summary
As a Carpenter 1 with Selinsgrove Center, you will help create safe and comfortable spaces for the people who live and work here. This role lets you apply your building skills to projects that make a real difference every day, working as part of a team that improves living areas and keeps the campus in top shape.

Responsibilities

Shop Maintenance: keep the carpenter shop organized and uphold safe housekeeping practices.

Structural Work: repair roofs, soffits, spouting, and other building features to maintain safety and stability.

Construction Tasks: build forms, frames, partitions, ceilings, and install or repair doors using hand and power tools.

Personalized Projects: create shelves, furniture, and other wooden items to support individual living areas.

Surface Repairs: fix wood, concrete, and manufactured surfaces and apply paint when needed.

Collaboration: work with other trades on tasks such as concrete work, moving equipment, repairing beds, or assisting with welding.

Work Schedule: full‑time employment, 37.5 hours per week, 7:30 AM–3:30 PM Monday‑Friday, 30‑minute lunch.

Overtime and travel may be required.

Free parking available; telework is not an option.

Qualifications

Successful completion of the Building Trades Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title), or three years of experience in construction, installation, repair, restoration, or maintenance of structures made from wood, composite, and wood substitute materials, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Active motor vehicle license.

PA residency requirement met (see residency guidelines).

Ability to perform essential job functions.

Conditional offer will require a medical examination.

Legal Requirements

Position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act; conditional offer requires submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including PA State Police and FBI clearance.
