The Indiana University Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (IUMAA) is Indiana University's newest museum. The IUMAA takes aspects of the former Mathers Museum of World Culture and the Laboratory of Archaeology and combines them into one cohesive experience. With an impactful long-term vision focusing on purposeful storytelling, stewarding collections, and bringing these items to communities, the IUMAA thoughtfully houses and displays over 5 million artifacts that span a broad range of human experience. The IUMAA is accessible for research as well as teaching and is culturally connected to our broader community through partnerships with Indigenous communities, advisory boards, and other IUMAA community members.

Job Summary

Part-Time Operations Technician works as part of the Operations and Building Management team to ensure the museum is functional, safe, and efficient. The Operations Technician will work with the Operations Manager to support staff and museum personnel, uphold IUMAA Operations standards and practices, and provide logistical support to museum functionality.

Department-Specific Responsibilities
Supports the Operations manager to set up room infrastructure and technology for events
Supports with event staffing, event logistics, and ancillary events tasks
Safely lifts, carriies, pushes, and moves materials, supplies, equipment, and furniture as needed
Gathers and inputs Environmental Data pertinent to the museum and collections
Surveys and inputs data related to Integrated Pest Management policies of the building
Provides support for after-hours and weekend events happening in the museum
Monitors and enforces parking policies
Conducts sweeps of the building and grounds to survey for safety and security issues
Coordinates support for Operations activities, resource deployment, and communication
Develops schedule and fulfills tasks related to daily, weekly, and monthly recurring Operations obligations
Uses organizational skills to keep department assets and data tidy and available across multiple spaces and platforms
Collaborates with cross functional teams with varying levels of seniority and experience to support various programs
Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required

High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred

Bachelor's degree in business administration, office management, hospitality management, event planning, or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

2 years of relevant experience
Preferred

Experience in facility care, facility management, operations/logistics management, event/program planning, hospitality, etc.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Preferred

CPR/AED certified
SKILLS

Required

Excellent communication skills
Willingness to learn new things
Ability to troubleshoot
Basic computing skills including the ability to use Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and on-line forms
Preferred

General handiness and familiarity with tools
Technological prowess and knowledge of computer systems
Experience with AutoCAD, Visio, or other design software systems
General knowledge and familiarity with local species of insects
Familiarity with ADA regulations
Working Conditions / Demands

This role has both extended periods of being sedentary and extended periods of being physically active as needed. The role routinely moves objects that weigh up to 40 pounds with assistance, as well as crouching, bending, and lifting. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary

$15.00 - $17.00 per hour, based on experience

Work Hours

9 to 16 hours per week
