Overview
IU Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology (BL-MAA-IUBLA) is Indiana University’s newest museum. It combines the legacy of the Mathers Museum of World Culture and the Laboratory of Archaeology to provide a cohesive, impactful experience focusing on storytelling, stewardship, and community engagement.
Part‑Time Operations Technician works as part of the Operations and Building Management team to ensure the museum is functional, safe, and efficient. The technician supports staff and museum personnel, upholds operations standards, and provides logistical support to museum activities.
Responsibilities
Supports the Operations Manager to set up room infrastructure and technology for events
Assists with event staffing, logistics, and ancillary tasks
Safely lifts, carries, pushes, and moves materials, supplies, equipment, and furniture as needed
Collects and inputs environmental data relevant to the museum and collections
Surveys and inputs data related to Integrated Pest Management policies of the building
Provides support for after‑hours and weekend events
Monitors and enforces parking policies
Conducts building and grounds sweeps to identify safety and security issues
Coordinates support for operations activities, resource deployment, and communication
Develops schedules and fulfills daily, weekly, and monthly recurring operations obligations
Maintains departmental assets and data organization across multiple spaces and platforms
Collaborates with cross‑functional teams of varying seniority and experience to support programs
Education
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, office management, hospitality management, event planning, or a related field
Work Experience
Required
2 years of relevant experience
Preferred
Experience in facility care, facility management, operations/logistics management, event/program planning, hospitality, or related areas
Licenses and Certificates
Preferred
CPR/AED certified

Basic computing skills, including Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and online forms

General handiness and familiarity with tools

Familiarity with ADA regulations
Physical Demands
This role involves both sedentary periods and physical activity, including moving objects up to 40 pounds with assistance, crouching, bending, and lifting. The person must be able to perform essential functions with or without accommodation.
Location
Bloomington, Indiana – In‑person position.
Compensation
$15.00 – $17.00 per hour, based on experience.
9 to 16 hours per week.
