About the Role

Sr. Manager/Director, Engineering Strategy & Operations is a key leader within the Platform Engineering Strategy and Operations organization, responsible for driving operational excellence, organizational effectiveness, and strategic initiatives across a global engineering footprint. This role partners closely with Platform Engineering leaders and Finance to ensure engineering investments, processes, and execution are tightly aligned with Salesforce’s strategic priorities.
As a critical bridge between engineering execution and business strategy, you will lead budget management for Platform Engineering while building and scaling world‑class operating programs that empower engineers to solve complex customer challenges on the Salesforce Platform. This hands‑on leadership role blends strategic ownership, technical acumen, and operational rigor to drive meaningful impact across Salesforce Clouds.
Responsibilities

Drive Engineering Strategy & Execution: Partner with senior engineering and business leaders to translate company strategy into actionable operating plans

Serve as a trusted advisor to Platform Engineering leadership on priorities, trade‑offs, and investment decisions

Lead Financial & Program Operations: Own program and spend management for Platform Engineering, including budget planning, forecasting, and optimization. Apply strong financial and data analytics to guide high‑impact investment and resource decisions

Build Scalable Operating Models: Design and implement operational frameworks for knowledge sharing, reusable assets, and engineering engagement playbooks. Establish mechanisms that improve execution rigor, delivery predictability, and cross‑cloud collaboration

Enable Technical Excellence: Define and evolve the technical vision for engineering enablement programs in alignment with Salesforce platform standards, guardrails, and product roadmaps

Measure What Matters: Develop and track success metrics for programs and initiatives. Use data‑driven insights to continuously refine strategy, operations, and future investments

Minimum Qualifications

8+ years of experience in engineering management, technical program management, or engineering operations within an enterprise technology environment

8+ years leading SaaS product development programs with a strong understanding of the SaaS business model and product lifecycle

Deep knowledge of the software development lifecycle, including agile methodologies in fast‑moving environments

Strong financial literacy, including budgeting, P&L concepts, and managing large, complex data sets

Exceptional analytical and problem‑solving skills, with a hands‑on, detail‑oriented approach

Proven ability to establish credibility with senior executives and influence across engineering, product, and customer organizations

Outstanding communication, organizational, and stakeholder‑management skills in a matrixed environment

Ability to quickly master technical domains and emerging technologies relevant to the platform and programs you lead

A related technical degree required

Preferred Qualifications

Financially savvy, with strong understanding of cloud economics, public cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure), software spend, and emerging cost drivers such as LLM usage

Experience with analytics and dashboarding tools (e.g., Tableau)

Background in both strategic planning and tactical execution in complex, enterprise‑scale environments

Experience designing and owning scalable processes that turn strategy into sustained results

The typical base salary range for this position is $150,100 - $273,000 annually. In select cities within the San Francisco and New York City metropolitan area, the base salary range for this role is $180,200 - $298,400 annually. The range represents base salary only, and does not include company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity or benefits, as applicable.
