Public Information Officer II
The mission of the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East (SLFPA-E) is to ensure the physical and operational integrity of the regional flood risk management system across the East Jefferson, Orleans, and St. Bernard Parishes. This includes safeguarding against storm surges from hurricanes and other flood-related events. SLFPA-E is responsible for managing 192 miles of levees and floodwalls, 246 floodgates, 3 Permanent Canal Closure Pump Stations (PCCPs), and 8 marine navigational gates/complex structures.
The Public Information Officer II serves as a key communications support role for the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East, which includes the Orleans Levee District, East Jefferson Levee District, and Lake Borgne Basin Levee District. This position supports the Public Information Director in media relations, public messaging, website maintenance, social media coordination, newsletters, outreach, photography, emergency communications, and agency-approved public information efforts. The role also serves as a liaison with the Orleans Levee District and East Jefferson Levee District Police Departments and supports basic IT-related initiatives as directed.
The position is considered essential personnel and requires 24/availability during incidents, accidents, storms, flooding, tropical events, and other emergencies. The incumbent must be able to communicate clearly and professionally with media partners, members of the public, internal staff, state, and local entities.

Minimum Qualifications:
Three years of experience in public relations, journalism, marketing, content creation, social media management, or graphic design; OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR
A bachelor's degree.
Experience Substitution: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
Job Duties:
This position serves as the Public Information Officer II for the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East, which includes the Orleans Levee District, East Jefferson Levee District, and Lake Borgne Basin Levee District. The SLFPA-E has a combined budget of $55 million and encompasses many funds, expenditure types, and income sources.
The Public Information Officer reports directly to the Public Information Director and assists in several vital functions of the Public Information department. The PIO will be on-call 24/7 in the event of incidents, accidents, or emergencies, including flooding or storms. The PIO is considered essential personnel and is required to remain during tropical events. The incumbent will act as a liaison for the Orleans Levee District and East Jefferson Levee District Police Departments. Additionally, the incumbent will perform website updates and maintenance, including press releases, marketing materials, and digital assets, related to the agency.
The PIO will assist in all media relations aspects, including responding to and communicating with media partners and members of the public, as well as federal, state, and local entities.
The PIO will help coordinate and develop content for the internal and external agency newsletter, message boards, including photography. This person will provide support to the Administration for the use of third-party notification systems.
The PIO will support the Public Information Director in facilitating, maintaining, and posting agency-approved social media content on the agency's various social media accounts. The PIO will be a part of our outreach efforts and provide tours.
The incumbent will also support the Information Technology Department with basic IT initiatives as directed by the Public Information Director.

Appointment Type: This appointment type can be filled as Probational, Promotional, Lateral Transfer, Detail to Special Duty or Job Appointment.
Career Progression: This position participates in a Career Progression Group.
Work Schedule: Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
