Position Overview

Account Specialist – Commercial Lines at Sentry Insurance, Edwardsville, IL.
Responsibilities

Support commercial lines operational and underwriting processes by handling complex transactions and policy changes that support the review and acceptance/decline of new or renewal CL business.
Serve as the primary contact for customers, sales producers, and agents, building positive relationships and ensuring excellent service experience.
Monitor and manage service-related items such as incoming calls, emails, and faxes to address changes, questions, and problems, including quotes, renewals, policy changes, urgent recommendations, billing, and audit requests.
Assist sales producers or agents in maximizing their selling time by servicing the existing book, cross‑selling activities, and working with placement agencies to insure risks that do not fit Sentry’s portfolio.
Identify and evaluate opportunities, make detailed decisions, and understand risks and consequences of business decisions to provide significant business impact.
Manage small commercial books of business, including creating new and renewal applications, maintaining retention, and pursuing additional sale opportunities.
Maintain product and procedural knowledge of commercial lines, explain coverages to customers, and apply sound underwriting principles within defined authority.
Act as liaison between sales producers, underwriting, and other internal departments to gather underwriting requirements and customer documents/signatures, while monitoring status of outstanding quotes, renewals, and policy changes.
Work independently with excellent time management, organization, quality decision making, and communication skills.
Qualifications

Associate Degree or equivalent work experience.
2+ years of related work experience.
Property & Casualty License required; if not currently licensed, must obtain within 120 days of hire.
Prior Commercial Lines insurance experience desired with knowledge of commercial products and underwriting guidelines.
Ability to interpret and apply commercial insurance concepts and underwriting guidelines for majority of positions.
Ability to travel on a limited basis for team meetings or to meet prospects or current customers.
Strong PC skills and ability to quickly learn a variety of software applications.
Composure, strong customer service skills, and ability to build and maintain relationships.
Presentation and selling skills are required.
Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast‑paced work environment and work independently with little direction.
