Overview

An automation solutions provider is seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to design and build custom automated assembly, testing, and special process equipment across various industries. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and contribute to innovative solutions in a high-tech environment.
Key Responsibilities

Analyze customer specifications, product drawings, and documentation to develop optimal control solutions.
Design controls architecture for systems integrating pneumatic, cam, and servo-driven components.
Collaborate with electrical designers to ensure successful implementation.
Support mechanical engineering to align mechanical and electrical control systems.
Research and select robust, cost-effective components and subsystems.
Participate in internal and customer design reviews and buy-offs.
Diagnose and resolve mechanical or electrical system issues.
Document and communicate scope changes impacting cost or timeline.
Provide time estimates and scheduling updates for controls design tasks.
Maintain high standards of quality and professionalism.
Liaise with customers, internal teams, and vendors on technical details.
Travel nationally and internationally for installation, troubleshooting, or servicing of equipment.
Physical Requirements

This role may involve sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead, twisting, working at floor level, working in tight spaces, and lifting up to 32 lbs.
Key Stakeholders

Collaborate with project engineers, applications engineers, mechanical and controls engineers, manufacturing, purchasing, human resources, project teams, customers, and suppliers.
Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
5+ years of experience designing and integrating control systems for custom automation.
Proficient in Allen Bradley PLCs, HMIs, servo controls, and machine vision systems (e.g., Cognex, Keyence).
Experience configuring and programming remote I/O devices (e.g., Ethernet IP, Modbus).
Skilled in programming safety and non-safety PLCs and HMIs.
Robot programming experience with Fanuc, Yaskawa, ABB, Universal, or Kuka is a plus.
Strong problem-solving, analytical reasoning, and debugging skills.
Experience with analog/digital systems; C++ proficiency is a plus.
Familiarity with integrating instrumentation or lab equipment into automated systems for precise testing is a plus.
Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines and budgets.
Strong verbal, written, listening, and presentation communication skills.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel nationally and internationally.
Team player with a creative mindset and a sense of urgency to achieve results.
