Summary
Technical Writer responsibilities include researching and translating technical information into operational and maintenance manuals and web‑based documents for both non‑technical and technical users.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Understand technical concepts of the program and translate them into clear text and graphics.
Collaborate with hardware engineering to write operational and maintenance manuals.
Develop technical manuals that meet customer format requirements.
Communicate with company personnel and customers on the progress of technical manual development.
Work closely with technical publications to develop train‑the‑trainer courseware.
Conduct structured classroom instruction and simulator On‑the‑Job Training (OJT) for all aspects of simulator operation and maintenance.
Develop all training materials using in‑house or vendor‑provided documentation.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Three or more years of experience as a technical writer or instructor.
Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, or a related field.
U.S. citizenship required due to U.S. Government contract obligations.
Preferred Skills
Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical drawings, parts lists, and system indices.
Experience authoring and editing technical manuals for the military.
Familiarity with the publication lifecycle from source gathering, outline creation, to final product delivery.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including drafting, editing, proofreading, and page composition.
Experience with PTC Arbortext Editor.
Familiarity with hardware CAD tools.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word.
Experience with the Adobe suite.
Experience in the operation and maintenance of full‑flight simulators is preferable.
Willingness and ability to travel.
Must be able to obtain a Security Clearance.
Security Responsibilities
Comply with all company security and data protection policies and procedures.
Personally ensure proper marking and handling of all information and materials.
Do not divulge any information or access to employees without a need‑to‑know.
Do not disclose information outside the company without management approval.
All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company‑provided resources.
Be eligible for a DoD Personal Security Clearance.
Work Environment
This role operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands
Must be able to work in an office environment at a cube desk for a minimum of forty hours per week. May occasionally need to enter closed rooms, high‑bay or other manufacturing areas to observe necessary work.
