Senior Mechanical Controls Engineer
As a Senior Mechanical Controls Engineer, you will play a crucial role in our engineering team, focusing on the design of control systems from schematics through to construction administration. Your work will span various sectors, including Higher Education, Culture & Performing Arts, Healthcare, K-12, Justice/Civic, Mission Critical, and Energy, all aimed at creating environments that elevate lives.
Your Role and Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor engineering teams across multiple regions, ensuring clear understanding of project design criteria and providing training on control systems.
- Deliver high-quality designs through continuous guidance and multiple checkpoints.
- Manage project execution, maintaining alignment with budget, schedule, and scope while exceeding client expectations.
- Track and report on project milestones and deliverables, ensuring adherence to established quality standards.
- Document and facilitate meetings with staff and clients, coordinating interactions with project personnel, vendors, and consultants.
- Contribute to business development by assisting in RFP responses and building strong client relationships.
- Design automation systems for buildings, including smoke control and electrical systems.
- Collaborate with architects and fellow engineers early in the design process for integrated solutions.
- Conduct thorough technical reviews of interdisciplinary teams’ work before project issuance.
- Represent DLR Group in meetings with owners, clients, and suppliers.
- Mentor junior engineers and help develop robust controls standards within the firm.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in writing control specifications, creating control system diagrams, and developing sequences of operations.
- Familiarity with facility operations and maintenance of building systems.
- Working knowledge of the design and construction process, with the ability to effectively communicate across disciplines.
- Strong critical thinking, time management, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Understanding of business management and customer service principles.
- Knowledge of building and energy codes.
- Proven track record of delivering quality work consistently.
- Ability to lead teams and foster a collaborative environment.
- Knowledge and commitment to DLR Group's environmental strategies, including AIA2030, MEP2040, and SE2050.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a consulting engineering or A/E firm focusing on the design of mechanical, power, lighting, and/or low voltage systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Architectural Engineering or a related field.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
- 15+ years of engineering experience, particularly in building systems design.
- Experience in SCADA systems design.
- Expertise in integrating lighting systems into building automation systems.
- Knowledge of integrating electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems within security and building automation frameworks.
- LEED accreditation.
- Experience with BIM and Autodesk Revit.
- Building energy modeling experience.

Work Schedule
