Position Overview
The Artistic Director provides artistic leadership and creative direction for Jet City Improv’s ensemble and performance programs. This role focuses on maintaining high artistic standards, supporting performer growth, fostering a healthy and collaborative ensemble culture, and helping shape the artistic vision of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Artistic Leadership & Programming
Help shape and maintain the artistic vision of Jet City Improv
Support artistic excellence across ensemble and performance programming
Provide feedback, mentorship, and artistic guidance to performers and directors
Collaborate on season planning and artistic programming
Support development of new shows, formats, and performance opportunities
Help maintain a healthy, collaborative, and inclusive artistic culture
Lead or coordinate weekly Ensemble Workshops (currently Mondays, 7:30pm–9:30pm)
Hold ensemble auditions as needed
Support onboarding and artistic development of ensemble members
Provide performance notes and feedback when appropriate
Work with directors of ensemble productions and JCI Presents productions
Performance & Community Engagement
Attend ensemble and JCI Presents performances as reasonably available
Participate in auditions and key artistic events
Represent Jet City Improv positively within the broader arts and improv community
Help foster relationships within the Seattle arts community
Organizational Collaboration
Attend staff meetings and planning meetings
Collaborate with the Executive & Managing Director and Business & Operations Director
Support planning and participation in the Jet City Improv Festival and other community events
Assist with community-building activities including holiday gatherings and ensemble events
Desired Qualifications
Experience in improvisational theater performance, directing, and/or artistic leadership
Strong understanding of improv training and ensemble development
Ability to provide thoughtful artistic feedback and mentorship
Excellent communication and collaboration skillsCommitment to creating an inclusive, respectful, and supportive environment
Ability to balance artistic vision with organizational collaboration and professionalism
Experience working within nonprofit arts organizations is a plus
Additional Notes
This position regularly requires evening and weekend availability based on rehearsals, performances, workshops, and events.
