Essential Functions
Direct development of AONL communication vehicles/publications to meet member needs and strengthen the AONL brand.
Manage and direct content development for key AONL publications (Voice of Nursing Leadership, eNews Update, section of Nurse Leader, Journal of Nursing Administration columns, etc.).
Develop editorial plans, budgets and content; research relevant news stories, engage authors, edit submitted articles, craft new content as needed.
Serve as managing editor of Voice of Nursing Leadership and contributing editor of Nurse Leader.
Strategically develop and manage the AONL annual editorial calendar to ensure relevance to nursing leadership.
Liaise with publication authors and the AONL publications committee for topic development.
Plan and facilitate annual retreats for the publication committee, creating the editorial calendar and supporting committee presentations to the AONL board.
Oversee an internal editorial workgroup, engaging staff content experts.
Plan and direct content distribution on social media, mobile applications and other technologies to expand the AONL communication platform.
Direct work for new publication products, managing consultants and ensuring completion and use objectives are met.
Seek and pursue collaboration opportunities with other organizations inside and outside AHA for communication resources that benefit AONL members.
Facilitate sharing of AHA publications and resources through appropriate platforms.
Manage inventory and track costs of publications sold through the AONL online store.
Assist with the development of AONL press releases and content to strengthen the brand.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism or related field.
Experience: 5+ years writing and editing communications in a corporate or nonprofit sector.
Experience in magazine
ewsletter content development related to nursing or health care.
Project planning experience.
Experience with new and emerging marketing communication technologies.
Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
Knowledge of marketing communications.
Expert knowledge of writing and editing.
Knowledge of the health care industry and critical nursing issues.
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Self‑motivated, innovative, creative, flexible and disciplined.
Ability to prioritize and work within a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
Ability to work independently, as well as in a team and with volunteers.
Ability to keep abreast of new and emerging marketing communication technologies.
Ability to influence others.
Salary Information
Commensurate with related experience; salary range: Minimum $97,000, Midpoint $121,000, Maximum $145,000.
