Band Director
Coordinate and facilitate the band program in grades 9-12. This includes: articulation with the middle schools; developing a marching and concert band; supervising the color guard and majorettes; communicating between disciplines, schools, parent support groups, and community; designing, coordinating, and providing training; planning and facilitating material orders, responsible for instruments and equipment belonging to the district; repair of said instruments; coordinating of performance schedules; and scheduling all transportation.
Demonstrates appropriate verbal and written communication skills. Performs routine duties and tasks with little or no direct supervision. Participates in extracurricular activities and/or serves on designated committees. Demonstrates loyalty to the school, school system and administrators. Performs other duties as assigned by the principal Confers with music equipment companies on the condition of the music equipment and sheet music and provides for the necessary repairs and maintenance. Serves as a consultant to advisors of extracurricular music activities in the schools. Prepares and administers the music program budget. Works with Band Booster Club. Supervises summer band component.
Provides instruction at an appropriate instructional level with content development and building for transfer for students assigned to the teacher. Utilizes a variety of teaching strategies and resources appropriate for students assigned to the teacher. Assesses and encourages student progress by promoting encouragement, monitoring student progress, responding to adequate and inadequate performances and showing support of students in an appropriate manner. Manages the learning environment by using time efficiently, maintaining an effective physical setting for instruction and maintaining appropriate student behavior in the classroom. Keeps abreast of the latest developments in the field of music, conveys relevant information to students, parents, teachers, and administrators. Provides leadership in the planning and execution of school concerts and performances.
Participates in professional organizations and staff development activities. Shares information with others and applies what is learned to the classroom. Accepts new challenges in a professional manner.
Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding parent meetings and sending written communications; works effectively with colleagues and exhibits the fundamentals of good public/customer service. Enhances the climate of the building and the morale of colleagues. Accepts constructive criticism and follows up on administrative actions for improving performance.
Maintains a pattern of prompt and regular attendance. Completes reports, documentation, duties and other assignments in a prompt and professional manner. Exhibits time on task and a flexible, cooperative, progressive and hard working attitude and style.

Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the use of other computer applications as applicable to job responsibilities. Incorporates the use of technology into instruction in an appropriate manner.
Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree and valid SC Teaching Certificate in Music Education: Instrumental and a Read to Succeed Requirement. The candidate should posses a Type A CDL with PS endorsements to be able to drive a provided semi-truck and a district owned activity bus. Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, clients and the general public. Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such a fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
