Champions for Cures is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the fight against cancer. Founded in 2011 as Birdies for Cures, the organization began as a golf event supporting cancer-related causes and has since grown into Champions for Cures – an established force in the philanthropic community committed to advancing cancer research and supporting efforts to find a cure.

Role Overview
The Marketing & Operations Coordinator will support strategic growth initiatives and assist with day-to-day operations, working to advance the organization’s mission to fight cancer. This is a great opportunity for an early-career professional looking to gain hands‑on experience in nonprofit operations, fundraising, and community engagement.

This part‑time hybrid position is based in Westchester, IL with flexibility to work from home. There is potential for this role to grow into a full‑time position as the organization expands.

Key Responsibilities
Fundraising & Growth

Proactively solicit donations, sponsorships, and corporate giving from individuals, businesses, and community partners

Recruit and engage event participants, golfers, and peer‑to‑peer fundraising captains – actively growing registration and participation year over year

Cultivate and steward relationships with donors and prospects through consistent, personalized outreach

Identify and pursue new revenue opportunities, including individual giving, corporate partnerships, and community sponsorships

Support the team in hitting annual sponsor, P2P, and overall fundraising goals

Grants

Research 5–10 grant and corporate giving programs annually; identify top targets and track deadlines and requirements

Gather supporting documentation, draft narratives, and submit grant applications

Track submitted applications, follow up on pending submissions, and report on any awards received

Marketing & Communications

Create and schedule social media content across all program phases – nomination reminders, champion reveals, registration pushes, golfer recruitment, and event countdowns

Build and manage email sequences for registration, P2P fundraising, and champion campaigns using ActiveCampaign

Lead champion family storytelling: conduct interviews, collect photos and video, draft profiles and media kits, and manage reveal campaigns

Keep the website current – update homepage, registration pages, champion content, and P2P pages each phase

Operations & Project Management

Maintain project management tools and master files to keep annual programming on track

Schedule and prepare materials for board meetings, including weekly reports and phase updates

Manage CRM data (ActiveCampaign, BetterUnite) including contact cleanup, list imports, and data integrity

Coordinate the P2P program: training sessions, captain program, activity tracking, leaderboards, and captain coaching

Build Winter 2027 Gala and assist with sponsorship packages and gala marketing planning

Qualifications

Some experience or coursework in marketing, communications, nonprofit management, or a related field

Familiarity with email marketing platforms (ActiveCampaign or similar) and social media content creation

Comfort managing digital tools – website CMS updates, CRM data entry, and project management software

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines across a program year

Clear, confident written communication skills for donor-facing content, social posts, and board materials

Experience with or interest in peer‑to‑peer fundraising platforms is a plus

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid work environment

Proactive, detail‑oriented, and comfortable taking ownership of ongoing responsibilities

Genuine passion for the mission and enthusiasm for contributing to the fight against cancer

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field (preferred, not required)

$25-$35 per hour
