The San Diego County Water Authority is an independent public agency that serves as San Diego County's regional water wholesaler. The mission is to provide a safe and reliable water supply to its 22 member agencies serving a $268 billion economy and 3.3 million residents. The Authority is executing a long‑term strategy to diversify supplies, invest in delivery and storage systems, and improve water use efficiency.

Student Intern Opportunity
The Water Authority is seeking a Student Intern to support the Public Affairs Department. The intern will gain real‑world experience in public affairs, water supply communication, drought communications, and community engagement.

Responsibilities

Gather news from various websites and compile for a daily newsletter. Inspect the Water News Network for relevant water‑related updates.

Collect facts and information for website posts, social media, and video.

Produce content for social media and websites, including video and audio.

Prepare for and support staff booths at job and educational fairs and other events.

Provide behind‑the‑scenes support for speaking engagements and news conferences.

Perform basic administrative tasks to assist professional staff.

Prepare award entries for events.

Review current practices and make recommendations for improvements.

Education Requirements
Candidate must be enrolled full‑time in an accredited college or university at junior or senior level and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 or better in the last 60 semester units.

Skills and Job Knowledge

Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Desirable skills: WordPress, web‑based software, Drupal, Photoshop, video editing, Constant Contact.

Experience in online research.

Excellent written communication skills; after training, ability to interact with the public on water‑related topics.

Working Hours
15–20 hours per week, Monday–Friday during normal business hours. Possible evening and weekend assignments. Applicants must be able to start work between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Potentially more hours during school breaks.

Licenses / Certificates
Valid California driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under the Authority’s vehicle insurance policy.
