Overview
The San Diego County Water Authority is an independent public agency that serves as San Diego County's regional water wholesaler. The mission is to provide a safe and reliable water supply to its 22 member agencies serving a $268 billion economy and 3.3 million residents. The Authority is executing a long‑term strategy to diversify regional supplies, invest in delivery and storage infrastructure, and improve water use efficiency.

Public Affairs Department
The Public Affairs (PA) Department establishes, fosters, and strengthens relationships with business and civic organizations, community leaders, school-age children, the news media, and the general public to build and sustain support for Authority programs and initiatives. The department communicates the Authority's priorities and messages and implements regional programs to support member agency efforts and promote the Small Contractor Outreach and Opportunities Program.

Position
Student Intern – Public Affairs Department. Application review begins Monday, June 15, 2026. The recruitment remains open until the position is filled.

Responsibilities
As the Public Affairs Intern, you will:

Gather news from various websites and compile a daily newsletter.

Collect facts and information for website posts, social media, and video.

Produce content for social media and websites, including video and audio.

Assist staff booths at job and educational fairs and other events.

Provide behind‑the‑scenes support for speaking engagements and news conferences.

Perform basic administrative tasks to assist professional staff.

Prepare award entries for events.

Review current practices and make recommendations for improvements.

Qualifications

Enrolled full‑time in an accredited college or university as a junior or senior (or graduate student).

Minimum GPA of 2.5 or better over the last 60 semester units.

Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Desirable skills include WordPress, web‑based software, Drupal, Photoshop, video editing, and Constant Contact.

Excellent written communication skills; after training, ability to interact with the public on water‑related topics.

Working Hours
15–20 hours per week (Monday – Friday) during normal business hours, with the possibility of evening and weekend assignments. Applicants must be able to start work between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. during the normal work week. Potential for additional hours during school breaks.

Licenses / Certificates / Special Requirements
A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Authority's Vehicle Insurance Policy.
