VABDF is a small nonprofit serving individuals and families affected by inherited bleeding disorders. Because inherited bleeding disorders are rare and lifelong, our work is relationship-driven and community-focused. We partner closely with Hemophilia Treatment Centers (HTCs), other national and state bleeding disorders organizations, and industry partners to deliver meaningful programs and support. The Program & Communications Manager is a hands‑on role responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating programs and events, managing communications, and supporting community engagement. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this position plays a key role in a small three-person team and works closely with the part‑time Advocacy & Outreach Coordinator, as well‑as part‑time event staff, volunteers, vendors, and community partners to ensure successful program delivery. Job Duties
Programs & Events
Plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate approximately 15+ programs and events annually
Manage event logistics, contracts, timelines, materials, registration, and on‑site support
Serve as staff liaison for summer camp, children's programs, and teen activities
Support program and event budget development, expense tracking, and revenue reporting
Assist with sponsor, donor, and partner engagement related to programs and events
Communications & Marketing
Coordinate organizational communications related to programs, events, and key initiatives
Support social media content creation, planning, and posting across platforms
Develop and distribute monthly e‑newsletters, email campaigns, and marketing materials
Ensure website content is current, accurate, and aligned with organizational priorities
Lead the development and production of VABDF's Annual Gratitude Report, including content collection, donor and program impact stories, drafting, editing, design coordination, and final publication
Community Engagement & Operations
Work closely with the Advocacy & Outreach Coordinator, part‑time event staff, volunteers, vendors, and community partners to support program delivery and community engagement
Build and maintain relationships with community members, volunteers, national partners, vendors, and industry representatives
Maintain program records, databases, and reporting systems
Support general office, administrative, and organizational operations
Help ensure continuity of day‑to‑day operations in the absence of the Executive Director
Represent the organization professionally at community events, meetings, and partner activities

Comfort using technology, social media, and basic software programs
Preferred
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
Prior experience supervising or coordinating interns, volunteers, or part‑time staff
Additional Requirements
Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends
Ability to travel locally and regionally
Valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle
Ability to lift and transport event materials as needed
Work Schedule
Location: Hybrid – Richmond, Virginia (in‑office and remote work with required in‑person meetings, events, and community engagement activities)
Schedule: Full‑time, salaried exempt position
This is a hybrid position based in Richmond Virginia, with team members generally working in person approximately 2–3 days per week and remotely during the remainder of the workweek. Work schedules may vary during weeks with events, conferences, or other organizational activities requiring additional in‑person participation, with flexibility provided to help balance workload and scheduling needs.
