POSITION SUMMARY:

The Communications & Content Manager leads content strategy, storytelling, and messaging across Envision, serving as the organization's primary writer and content lead across donor, brand, and priority internal communications. This is a hands on, high output role responsible for producing a significant portion of Envision's written communications while also shaping the plans, cadence, and messaging approaches that guide how the organization communicates with key audiences.

This role owns the editorial calendar and content engine, translating complex programs, services, and impact into clear, compelling messaging. The Communications & Content Manager works closely with the Marketing Manager to support campaigns and initiatives and is supported by a Communications Coordinator who assists with publishing, distribution, and channel execution.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

Editorial Planning, Content Strategy & Deployment

Develop and manage the editorial calendar across donor, internal, and brand communications
Translate organizational priorities into a clear, consistent content plan
Maintain a content inventory, identifying gaps, refresh opportunities, and missing content by audience
Establish editorial standards, channel expectations, cadence, and tone across communications
Provide content direction and priorities to the Communications Coordinator for publishing, formatting, and deployment
Own how content is produced across available resources, including direct writing, coordinator support, and external partners
Review performance data and adjust content approach based on engagement, clarity, and effectiveness

Content Development & Storytelling

Serve as the primary writer and editor for core organizational communications
Write and produce a significant portion of Envision's written content, including donor communications, stewardship content, impact stories, internal updates, website copy, and campaign messaging
Craft clear, compelling narratives that reflect Envision's mission, impact, and voice
Translate complex program and operational information into accessible, audience focused messaging

Donor Communications Strategy & Content

Develop and refine Envision's donor communications approach, including messaging priorities, cadence, and content structure
Lead planning and narrative development for donor facing communications, including newsletters, impact updates, stewardship messaging, and campaign communications
Identify opportunities to strengthen donor engagement through clearer storytelling and consistent communication rhythms
Partner with Development and Marketing to ensure donor communications align with fundraising priorities and campaigns

Internal Communications

Lead the development and ongoing management of Envision's internal communications newsletter, including content planning, editorial structure, and collaboration with contributing teams
Establish a consistent cadence and clear process for internal newsletter development
Support select internal communications needs as they arise, including organizational updates and leadership messaging
Help improve internal communication clarity and consistency through structured, priority driven content

Messaging, Brand Alignment & Collaboration

Maintain consistency in voice, tone, and messaging across communications
Apply and reinforce established brand and messaging guidelines
Provide content guidance to internal stakeholders to ensure messaging is clear, consistent, and aligned before development or distribution
Partner with the Marketing Manager to support campaigns by providing messaging and content
Work closely with the Communications Coordinator to ensure content is prepared and executed effectively

PR, Event & External Communications Support

Identify storytelling opportunities that support media, event, or external visibility efforts
Develop messaging and content approach for key events, including pre event promotion, during event communications, and post event storytelling
Partner with leadership and external resources on communications as needed
Review performance data across communication channels to identify trends and opportunities
Adjust content approach, messaging, and cadence based on engagement and effectiveness
Identify opportunities to improve clarity, consistency, and effectiveness of communications across the organization
Support development of press materials, talking points, and external messaging

Other Duties as Assigned

Flexibility to support additional strategic communication needs based on organizational priorities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field required; marketing degrees considered with strong writing and communications experience

Required Qualifications:

5-8 years of experience in communications, content strategy, editorial, or related roles.
Demonstrated experience writing for multiple audiences and formats.
Experience developing communications plans, content cadence, or audience specific messaging approaches.
Portfolio or writing samples demonstrating quality and range required.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations
Experience developing donor communications and stewardship messaging
Experience managing editorial calendars and content systems
Experience supporting internal communications in a complex organization
Knowledge / Skills:

Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills
Strong understanding of audience-based messaging and narrative development
Ability to design and manage communications cadence for key audiences, particularly donor and internal communications
Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, effective communications
Strong organizational and planning skills
High attention to detail and commitment to quality
Ability to manage a steady volume of content production while maintaining consistency and clarity
Ability to provide direction and support to a coordinator or junior team member
