Plant Process Equipment Operator

Operates plant process equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Responsibilities include moving control settings to adjust equipment units affecting speeds of chemical reactions, quality, and yields. Monitors recording instruments, flow meters, panel lights, and other indicators to verify conformity of process conditions. Controls or operates chemical processes or systems of machines using panel boards, control boards, or semi-automatic equipment. Records operating data such as process conditions, test results, and instrument readings. Confers with technical and supervisory personnel to report or resolve conditions affecting safety, efficiency, and product quality. Draws samples of products and conducts quality control tests to monitor processing and ensure that standards are met. Regulates or shuts down equipment during emergency situations as directed by supervisory personnel. Starts pumps to wash and rinse reactor vessels, to exhaust gases and vapors, to regulate the flow of oil, steam, air, and perfume to towers, and to add products to converter or blending vessels. Interprets chemical reactions visible through sight glasses or on television monitors and reviews laboratory test reports for process adjustments. Patrols work areas to ensure that solutions in tanks and troughs are not in danger. Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules. Performs other duties as required.
Job requirements include good oral and written communication skills, the ability to apply knowledge and skills to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, and the ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to use forklift, drill and attachment, scale, computer, vacuum, buffer, etc. Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy. Plan work and select proper tools. Compare and see differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects. Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings. Make decisions based on measurable criteria. Work at heights without fear.
Requires minimum two years applicable experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment. Prefer two-year degree in Process Technology. Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
Physical requirements include standing 60%, walking 20%, sitting 20%, lifting 50 lb, carrying 50 lb, pushing 70 ft-lb, pulling 70 ft-lb. Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering.
