Overview
The incumbent has authority, responsibility, and shift accountability for the delivery of nursing care through the use of the nursing process. The incumbent accepts accountability, applies competent clinical knowledge and skills, and uses independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and by health care providers to whom care is delegated to achieve quality patient care outcomes. Performs the duties and responsibilities within the scope of a Registered Nurse (RN) - Level I, as defined within the job description.
The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills at the advanced beginner level necessary to provide care that is relevant to the patients under their care, as well as apply principles of growth and development over the lifespan. The incumbent also must possess the ability to assess and interpret patient data needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs. This role provides professional nursing care for patients in an inpatient hospital setting.
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure: Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi-state Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). Must obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire date.
Experience: One (1) year of registered nursing experience.

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure: Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN).

Modifies patient’s plan of care based on data collection and patient’s individual needs.
Uses Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) to provide patient care.
Delegates according to scope of practice.
Verifies the plan of care with interprofessional colleagues, patient, and caregiver(s).

Facilities With Specialty Accreditation Requirements
Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, in-services, and competency validation.
Physical Requirements
Minimize the need to manually lift patients, with mandatory limits of 35 pounds for safe patient handling via lift equipment or other aids as indicated.
Must be capable of lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying materials and equipment weighing 40+ lbs.
Must have visual acuity within normal range.
Must have hearing within normal range (e.g., to assess breath sounds).

CAPE Program and Career Development
The CAPE program is a system-wide clinical advancement program to enhance professional development, provide a reward system, promote quality nursing, and improve job satisfaction for inpatient direct care nurses. Must meet mandatory criteria for current level and must submit five competencies annually for levels 3-6.
Levels
Level 1 —No experience required. All graduates with at least 12 months experience enter at Level 1 with diploma, ADN, BSN, or higher.
Level 2 —Must meet Level 1 requirements. Must have one year of experience.
Level 3 —Must meet Level 2 requirements. Must have two years of experience plus one specialty certification. Must demonstrate charge or precepting experience.
Level 4 —Must meet Level 3 requirements. Must have BSN or higher or ADN with five years experience. Must have one mandatory specialty certification and must demonstrate participation in QI and shared governance at the unit level.
Level 5 —Must meet Level 4 requirements. Must have MSN or higher with 4 years experience or equivalent, must have mandatory specialty certification, must demonstrate mandatory charge or precepting and mandatory participation in QI and shared governance at the organization level.
Level 6 —Must meet Level 5 requirements. Must have MSN or higher with 7+ years experience. Must have mandatory specialty certification and mandatory participation in QI and shared governance at the system level.
