Manager of Public Engagement and Programming
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Manager of Public Engagement and Programming for the Rutgers Democracy Lab (RDL). This position will report to the Director and Chief Operating Officer.
Responsibilities
Leads the RDL's public-facing initiatives, events, and partnerships.
Designs and manages a portfolio of programs that translate the Lab's research and signature programs into accessible, impactful engagement opportunities for policymakers, practitioners, journalists, students, and the broader public.
Plays a central role in advancing strategic partnerships and increasing visibility for the Lab's mission to build a civic community at Rutgers and strengthen democracy.
Works closely with centers at the Eagleton Institute, RDL democracy associates, RDL visiting fellows, university partners, and external stakeholders.
Participates in Institute-wide and/or cross-team projects.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in political science, public policy, communications, public affairs, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience) and at least 3 years of experience in public programming, policy engagement, communications, nonprofit leadership, or a related role.
Preferred Qualifications
5 years of experience in public programming, policy engagement, communications, nonprofit leadership, or a related role.
Knowledge of democratic institutions, governance, technology and democracy, or civic engagement.
Experience working in a university-based research center, think tank, or mission-driven organization.
Experience engaging policymakers, journalists, and community stakeholders.
Supervisory or team-lead experience.
Familiarity with higher-education administrative processes.
Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Event management and registration software.
University financial and procurement systems.
Standard office equipment (computer, phone, printers).
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated experience producing public events and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines and institutions.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Eagleton offices are located within a historic building with no elevator.
The duties of this position regularly involve navigating stairs numerous times a day.

Special Conditions
This position will require availability to occasionally work evenings during the academic year and some weekends.
This position is paid from a five-year gift, and continuation is contingent upon available funds.
Salary Details
Minimum Salary: $82,166.00
Mid Range Salary: $104,002.00
Maximum Salary: $125,837.00
FLSA Exempt

Standard Hours: 37.50
Terms of Appointment: Staff - 12 month
