General Description
The Computer Science Department is seeking a motivated student to assist the Department Chair in planning, coordinating, and hosting department events. This temporary position is ideal for students with strong communication and organizational skills who are interested in gaining experience in event coordination and academic department operations.
Reports To
Dept. Chair/Dean of Business and IT. No positions report to this position.
Minimum Education / Experience
Current OCCC student enrolled in a minimum of 6 hours for the Fall or Spring semester or enrolled in a minimum of 3 hours for the Summer semester.
OR Current OCCC student with a federal work study award.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other visual communication software tools to create flyers, promotional videos, etc.
Availability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings for events.
Physical Demands / Working Conditions
Light work: may occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Frequent communication with and listening to students, faculty, staff, and others to perform essential functions.
Frequent movement around the department to assist students and perform essential functions.
Frequent operation of a computer and other office equipment.
Occasional positioning self to access materials at heights or ground level.
Use of upper and lower body to exert force up to 20 pounds to push, pull, grasp, lift materials or equipment.
Frequent positioning self to work with computer equipment or assist students.
Judging, observing, and assessing accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or making general observations.
Indoor or office setting.
Preferred Qualifications
Current student at OCCC, preferably in Computer Science or a related field.
Required Training
As assigned.
Work Hours
Flexible, depending on the needs of the department and the class schedule of the student.
Job Duties
Collaborate with the Department Chair to plan and execute departmental events such as lunch and learn events, lectures, student meets, workshops, etc.
Coordinate event logistics, including room reservations, promotional materials, technical setup and support.
Create event announcements for distribution.
Maintain an organized calendar of events and assist in tracking attendance and collecting feedback.

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.
Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for injury and illness prevention for self and others.
Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established safety and health procedures and practices.
Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation, shelter‑in‑place drills, and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
